Title: Warm Up The Tractor??
Post by: NCKCAT on January 14, 2009, 01:58:55 PM
Nice sign ku fan...whoever you are...since you live in a state where the economy runs greatly off of agriculture...evidently not all stereotypes are bad in Lawrence...oh well.

That is there every year.  It is an excellent sign because it riles up rural KSU folk.

Sign is horrible IMO.  KSU is on top of the Ag world, we have bitchin tractors.  No need to warm them up!  That's for old tractors.  Stupid uk fans.

Hey I'm rural KSU folk and it doesn't rile me up.  I'm guessing these tractors some of these farmers are driving cost a little more than the decade old hand me down BMW or range rover that ku student us driving.  I'm proud of my agricultural back ground. :kstatriot:

It must really sting those JoCo folks that their parents or grandparents worked the ground near Pretty Prairie or such like. Probably have a vision of their Kansas forebearers arriving in the state in Beemers and pastel sweaters draped over their shoulders, ready to do some lawyering in Corporate Woods.

ku fans are from Chicago, their grandparents didn't work any ground.  And they likely don't even know what wheat is.

most ku fans don't know what a tractor is.

i'm one of them.  Chicago, St louis, Omaha, Kansas City, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Tulsa, OK city, Denver, Des Moines, and Wichita seem to be where most of us are from.

to us, that is par for the course (making fun of aggie stereotypes) and unfortunately you guys don't play along very well.  except for this emoticon which is perfect :ku:

maybe but that isn't the point.  When I think 'kansas (as in ku)' country I think of Lawrence and Kansas City.  Everything else is KSU country.

i'd say the majority of the people I knew and went to class with were from KC and Chicago.  People from small KS towns were fairly rare or at least didn't socialize much.  I'd guess that my dorm freshmen year was probably 90% kids from cities if not more.

18,557 of ku's on campus Lawrence enrollment is from Kansas, 6,000 of those are not from the major population counties in Kansas.

ku has more residents of kansas on campus than K-State does.

there is a big difference between johnson county kids and the kids from the rest of the state.  You should know that by now.

once again you aren't thinking logically.  The tractor stereotype is due the KSU's curriculum with the school of agriculture and the perception that it's a school for farmers.  It doesn't need to be thought of as any more than that.

my KSU fan friends thought it was hilarious along with the one with the trophies and the cow.

Uh...as far as my rural kansas farming community is concerned, and many others just like it I am sure....50% KSU Fans, 50% squawk fans approx...pretty sure they all know what a tractor is...and all major cities you named are in states that rely heavily on agriculture as well. But whatever...

First off, ku doesn't have twice the enrollment of K-State, unless you're using some sort of dumbass math they teach at ku.

We laugh at the fact that many ku folks try to pretend that ku isn't in KANSAS.

once again, you missed the point.

KSU has a program for farmers and that is their reputation like most aggie schools.

ku does not.

therefore 'warm up the tractor'  it's funny.

NuWay doesn't need your crappy farm vegetables and hay and crap. The raise their own meat right in the back and then they stick the cow right into the crumbler and it comes out all crumbly and delicious so you can take your self-righteous "I'm a farmer, I feed the world!" sack of crap and peddle that stuff elsewhere. And don't ever mention NuWay ever again. I don't want to hear it out of your dirty whore mouth and I don't want to see it on my computer screen typed by your dirty whore fingers.

You ever take a bite of a NuWay and then immediately take a sip of their root beer, while the sandwich is still being chewed. Try it sometime...

I'll have to try that. Don't you live in Topeka? Do they have NuWays there? Or did you used to live in Wichita or something? I've never seen a NuWay anywhere other than Wichita so I just assumed it was a Wichita thing but maybe I'm wrong on that.

Be honest with us Shocker, you haven't ever actually left the city limits of Wichita, have you?  You can at least go as far as Tulsa or KC, they at least have Quiktrips there.

most ku fans don't know what a tractor is.

i'm one of them.

I know you're joking and everything but do ku fans realize that 70% of their student body comes from Kansas?

maybe but that isn't the point.

F*ck you.  Who the frack are you?  Where the frack are you from?  You don't know **** about what you are talking about.

I just want to know why you brought up Pretty Prairie...I'm one of about 15 people in the whole state can point it out on a map... the other 14 are my mother and siblings/grandparents.

OOOHHH, OOHHH I can point out Pretty Prairie.  But I bet less can find Plevna.  Population 100.  We grows some good wheat and raise yummy cows certified angus and herferd. (what ever that means)

Grandparents raised all of their kids (including my mom) in Pretty Prairie.  Gramps was pretty high up on the food chain in that school district as well, at one time.  Had an uncle/aunt that lived in Castleton, another lived right near Mt. Vernon and they now lives in Cheney.  But no, sadly, I can't point out Plevna.  I had been down in the area many, many times, but not looking around for other little po-dunk towns.  I do know there is a Catholic church to the southwest a bit in the middle of no where and I'm not talking about Mt. Vernon either.  It's just on a strange dirt road going west for a mile or two off whatever highway that is that runs south by PP.  Always thought it was strange to just build a church willy nilly but they have all kinds of isolated churches in that area, I'm sure.  They all seat like 40 people too.  LOL

Had a band teacher in high school that was from Pretty Prairie or surrounding area.  I can't remember exactly.  Did you go to Hutch Juco because he lives/works there currently, I believe.

18,557 of ku's on campus Lawrence enrollment is from Kansas, 6,000 of those are not from the major population counties in Kansas.

ku has more residents of kansas on campus than K-State does.

LINK????????

http://www.registrar.ku.edu/pdf/20th_day/fall_2008_kheer.pdf

Actually 18,890 on campus in Lawrence are Kansas Residents.

ku lawrence campus has
26,999total enrollment
18,890 from kansas

13,841 from Johnson, Douglas, or Sedgwick county (51.2% of total students, 73.3% of kansas students)
8,109 out of state (30.0%)
5,049 from the rest of kansas (18.7%, 26.7% )

If you actually break it down, the students from non-urban areas of kansas are definitely the geographic minority on the ku campus, like it or not.

For KSU out of kansas only enrollment it is
26% Johnson, Douglas, Sedgwick
74% Other

Pretty much exact opposites, as expected

you should probably add shawnee, riley and saline into the group w/douglass johnson and sedwick.

of course ku will have the higher # w/douglass and johnson. a better comparo would be sedgewick and shawnee between the two schools.

Definitely a good point, it's pretty even between those two counties
KSU
Sedgwick - 8.3%
Shawnee - 5.0%

ku
Sedgwick - 9.6%
Shawnee - 6.5%

I realized ku's by county numbers include the med. school, so here's the adjusted % including the med school. % from non-johnson etc goes up to 34%
30102 total
20999 kansans
9103 out of state (30.2%)
13841 joco, etc (46%, 66%)
7158 other (23.8%,34%)

Dude, I am so confused . . .

As a native rural Kansan ku alum, I am not sure whether I am supposed to be happy or mad at the ku demographics?  Am I the silent majority or an outlier?

Happy or mad at the K-State demographics?

Where does Topeka fit in?  How do we decide which areas are K-State and ku and which ones should be and which ones not?  Should we suspect anyone of gerrymandering?  Which university has most to gain by gerrymandering?  Which has most to lose?  How do we deal with the Wichita Problem?  Does Wichita State fit in anywhere?  What to do with alums of the state's Division II schools with Div. I loyalties and sympathetic identification?  Should we handicap the fact that twice as many kids grow up in Lawrence as Manhattan?  If so, how do we handicap it?  Is that an advantage for Lawrence or for Manhattan?  Do kids naturally want to stay at home or do they naturally want to get the hell out?

So confused . . .

That sign didn't offend me at all.  I like to eat and that sh1t.  But 89% of farmers would't be fun to hang out with (notyougrandpalol!).  Sup SD?  Omaha's cool.  Sluts. :Carl:

I'm not offended either.  I just think it's stupid.  I suppose the dude is planning on eating cardboard the rest of his life.

Agriculture jokes against K-State when ku people also eat food to live are about as dumb as "K"-State and their "Gay U" stuff when you could just as easily say "Gay State".

Dumb, dumb, dumb.  People are stupid.  Cleverness is sadly passe.

The glue that holds layers of cardboard together is a product of corn, so he wouldn't be able to eat that either

"Warm up the Manure Spreader"

Now those, they do something for me.

Warm up the anhyderous ammonia! (probably not a good idea but ku fans don't know that)

I can't stop laughing everytime I see. the humor comes more from the fact they are kansans as well.

and it's just funny. i can't really explain it. it's just really funny.

my KSU fan friends thought it was hilarious along with the one with the trophies and the cow.
Your KSU fan friends need therapy. That was the most WTF sign I've ever seen at a sporting event.

no, they are from prairie village so they understand it and find it funny even though it's making fun of their own school.  I think they are a lot smarter and more cultured than most of the people on the board to say the least.

more like 40% ku, 25% MU, and 8% KSU (27% other) going by the stats i've seen.  Ask a real estate agent who sells lofts downtown, they'll probably have the same info.

They don't teach fracking biology at ku?  WTF?

i'm sure they do.  I never ventured onto that side of campus very much.  I'd assume the med school has a need for plenty of biology related courses.

How is KSU's med school?
Its actually a Vet School but in a way i suppose you could refer to it as a med school

Good think I totally know what a windrow is.

from Wiki
Quote
A windrow is a row of cut (mowed) hay or small grain crop.

It is allowed to dry before being baled, combined, or rolled. For hay, the windrow is often formed by a hay rake, which rakes hay that has been cut by a mower machine or by scythe into a row, or it may naturally form as the hay is mowed. For small grain crops which are to be harvested, the windrow is formed by swather which both cuts the crop and forms the windrow.

Grandparents raised all of their kids (including my mom) in Pretty Prairie.  Gramps was pretty high up on the food chain in that school district as well, at one time.  Had an uncle/aunt that lived in Castleton, another lived right near Mt.

No kidding!

It's been known for centuries that Prairie Village is a cultural and higher learning mecca for not just the American midwest, but throughout the world. In a 1997 visit to the hallowed burg the Dalai Lama was heard to utter, "Tibet has been our hub for centuries, but the modern Buddhist must complete a pilgrimage to Prairie Village to be whole."
Those who wish to be enlightened can visit any number of split-level homes with stunning owner-built additions. For a mere $30,000 to $40,000 more than their Overland Park slum counterparts, a person can own one of these residences and increase their IQ by at least 50 points.
References to Prairie Village can first be seen in Leviticus 26:
" 'I will grant peace in the land of Prairie Village, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove savage beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country. 7 You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you. 8 Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you. "

and further:
"14 I, your LORD will grant thee a Mexican Restaurant. You will know it is holy for I shall bestow upon it a pure sodium lizard. As your LORD, I command thee to choketh down this overrated, bland feast. But if you will not listen to me and carry out all this command, 15 and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, 16 then I will do this to you: I will bring upon you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and drain away your life. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it. 17 If thou shalt spread the good word of this establishment, I shall repay thou with a hairpiece more glorious than that of a mulesmith"

If you ask nicely, Brewster's Millions may regale you with tales of travel to far flung locals, like Orlando.

Now, I know a lot of you are like "OR...LAN...DOE? That sounds made up, like a beautiful tropical martian world where everyone get a chair that walks and the Coca-Cola is in water fountains!!"

I thought the same thing until T. Brew set me straight.  Smack dab in the middle of the Union's classiest state.  Florida.  Don't let the fact that it is landlocked fool you fellow EMAWER's.  It is truly a billionaire's playground.

Don't bother.  Brew has told me it is so exclusive only Saudi Princes and Lawrence restaurant entrepeneurs are admitted.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
