Prince told me privately after his news conference that he’ll “never coach not to lose.” He also indicated that K-State does not have a brewing QB controversy.

Although he replaced Meier with freshman Josh Freeman after Marcus Watts’ interception return set the Wildcats up in scoring position — the Cats trailed 17-0 at the time and were still in the game — Prince indicated to me that he’ll be very careful with his talented freshman. Prince sees no reason to rush Freeman into the lineup, especially when he has an experienced senior.

Prince’s plan makes perfect sense. Freeman is a “franchise” type quarterback. It would be foolish to throw Freeman out on the field with an offensive unit that is trying to find its legs, pass protection and playmakers. You can ruin a young player’s confidence if he doesn’t experience success consistently. Freeman completed just three of 10 passes on Saturday. Meier struggled, too, connecting on 14 of 33 passes for 121 yards.

Prince should continue to use Freeman in a relief role, and the coach left me with the clear impression he’ll do just that.

Just what I've been saying all along.....Unless you want to go 3-9 this year.....Meier has to be the guy.

great article. I like how he touched on the exagerration by others about our "crappy" coaching staff.

I was just thinking the same thing.  PTI might be my favorite show on television.

Did you see his article about how Mangino is a great coach and ku has a legitimate shot at winning the North? :barf:
