nope, several different things.  The KC 135, the airforce tanker that Boeing almost lost the bid on, is actually a 747.

Or, where you asking are 747 commercial jets used only as international, and not just short flights?   :dunno:

The KC-135 is based off the Boeing 367-80 aircraft, which the Boeing 707 and 720 are based on.

maybe I'm thinking of Airforce 1.   I know the Govt. uses the 747 for something.

Airforce 1 and 2 are both 747's.

The C-5A Galaxy is based on the 747 except for the wing configuration.

C-5 Galaxy is a completely different plane built by a completely different company (Lockheed) for a completely different purpose.  No relation.

The Boeing 747 is used by NASA to transport the space shuttle orbiter piggyback.

Not true.

Well, yes, technically, any plane that carries the President is always designated Air Force one.

However, the planes that are provided to the President are both 747's.

Anyone else pissed that Midwest started charging extra for their formerly "standard" extra wide 2 across seating?  Slaves now ride in the back in chairs that would make United coach class blush.

Dude might be thinking of the 707s that were retired, like, 15+ years ago.

Or he might just be trying to be smart.

I'm not thinking of the 707's, but mj's follow-up post, although closer, is still wrong.

Been on one of those AF1 707's, tho.

United is the only carrier to lose my bag as well.  And they lost like $460M last quarter.  Seems they aren't very good at keeping track of bags or money.

Any Air Force plane the prez rides on.  An aircraft from another branch of service, whether F-22, Piper Cub, or 747 is Army 1, Marine 1, Navy 1, etc...
