Title: Watching Baylor and TTech on Versus and noticed blatant racism...
Post by: The1BigWillie on November 29, 2008, 05:19:57 PM
... I don't know who the jokers are doing the play by play but one they were commenting on Baylor's DC.  They stick the camera on him.  He's a young black guy.  The announcer says... "Remember his guy's name.  He's "very articulate"."

What the &@#% people?  When was the last time one of you fat pasty &@#%s called a young white assistant "articulate?"

It's sickening... jesus.... &@#%ing ignorant &@#%s.

Yeah would ya just shut up. You won the President's race, what more do ya want? Compared to the last two Presidents "BO" would be classified as articulate. Go find something else to bitch about. We poor, white farmer types don't care.

If they're going to use a popular black stereotype I'd rather them say...

"There's coach Smith. He's a real up and comer.  Keep an eye on him. He has a huge magnificent veiny member."

That better you reacist pigs?

This thread is flying towards the litterbox because of you white supremacists!!

Why would you need to call a coach "articulate"?

It's sickening... jesus.... fracking ignorant fracks.

You are 100% dead on the money.  It reminds me of earlier in the day when that idiot D' Farr said KSU should have given the very articulate Ron Prince "more time" and that he had KSU on the "right track".

In this day and age, when an African American Presidential candidate wins on the merits of the obvious strength of his intelligence and his overall superiority as a leader in comparison to his veteran white opponent, aren't we past all of the blatant tokenicity and the unnecessary affirmative action undertone that seems to pervade the politically correct sports landscape that the college football talking heads want to promote?  In fact, these race game driven race racketeers are doing the ultimate disservice to well meaning African American professionals in all walks of life, not just coaching, by their insistence upon the retention of incompetent minorities.

Not true.

You have to be slightly more aware than a common garden slug to notice racist comments like the one discussed here.

If life has gotten to the point that we can't laugh at ourselves and our shortcomings as humans, then perhaps we have let those that would desire us to be at each other's throats to have won. I prefer to think not.

Oh... absolutely. I was confused by your previous posts and though you yourself might be a racist.

However, even if you find it hilarious when white people refer to black people as things like "articulate", "clean", etc..., it doesn't make it not racist.

Another way to put it is: But you can't hold a whole KSUFans member board responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole KSUFans system? And if the whole KSUFans system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, The1BigWillie - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

It's not racist, lots of white people, chinese people, mjrod people, martian people, mole people are not articulate.  It's not a common trait, but it is a nice one to have.  Most football coaches in america are not articulate.  Hell, I'd bet a couple stacks you're not articulate.

Don't support the pussification of america.

Racism=Has no definition.  It's anything that pisses off black people now.  It always evolves.

Now a network guy saying that coach is articulate is racism.   Where will it end.

I suppose it can only end when black people cease being articulate.

When someone is getting jobbed because of race, it is frequently easy to diagnose....it's the solution/remedy problem that is tough.

If somebody is looking for racist remarks, they can be found EVERYWHERE. :billypopcorn:

If somebody is looking for signs that the Apocolypse is nigh, they can be found EVERYWHERE.  :cyclist:

If somebody is looking for ways that the song Hotel California lines up with an old movie they can be found EVERYWHERE.  :users:

The point it, if somebody is looking for anything hard enough, they can find it in their minds eye if nothing else.  Perception is NOT always reality.

I've heard white people called articulate.  It's not a phrase that is reserved for racist white dudes to pull out when there is nothing better to say about a particular black guy, unless you are looking for it to mean that.

You're right Pete, and you bring up a good point.

No one holds the golden ticket to end racism. However, in network sports broadcasting, for example, a good start might be a memo to your on-air personalities stating that saying a coach is "articulate" is not really a complement and may even be construed as racism. Not because being articulate isn't a good thing, but because of the history that has been established with that particular phrase over many years. I would go so far as to say that any sports-caster that doesn't realize this at this day and age, my need to consider a different profession.

Oh, I totally agree.  It's not like saying the Jewish guy is good with money.  It's different.  It's this new weird category of compliment that is actually saying "Man, you are different to me than the other people of your race."  Might as well say "He's an ['N-Word'] who talks good."

If I could remember one instance where a broadcaster referred to a non-minority coach or player as articulate in a complementary tone, I would agree with you. Unfortunately I cannot.

I also don't believe for second that the Eagles could have pulled off choreographing Hotel California to a film. But then again, the Eagles aren't Pink Floyd and Hotel California isn't Dark Side of the Moon.  :Bricks:

I can't reference an exact moment because, well, I'm not Rain Man.  I'm SURE it has happened in the past, probably to a young coach, like a Lane Kiffin or a John Gruden.

And, actually, as I'm sitting here pondering this retarded subject more, I think the phrase, "He's an articulate guy(or phrases akin to that one)," when describing a black guy is more a reaction to racism than racism.  Lets face it.  20-30% (guesstimate) of the whites in this country (and 90% of Texas) is still back woods enough to immediately correspond black with thug, idiot, uneducated, take your pick of the false stereotypes of years gone by.  An announcer saying something like 'articulate' is really the PC way to say that he is not those things.  So, in a way, an announcer saying phrases like that is denouncing racism.

And, for the record, I agree, PF were much more talented than the Eagles (though Joe Walsh is a guy I'd love to party with).  But people still insist Hotel California is going to line up with some classic film, and people still stretch the imagination to make it so - which was my point.
