Just heard it on ESPN that Kiffen is going to Tenn.
-
Bad hire to Tennessee.
Really can't see him being able to succeed at Tennessee.
-
Young & can recruit. I think it is a pretty good hire IMHO.
-
Good hire by Tennessee IMO.
-
If he had KSU ties I'd take him in a second
-
I'm not sure what the hoorah is about Kiffin. He might work out, but I don't see what all the hype is about.
-
they should have rehired Fulmer IMO.

they should have rehired Fulmer IMO.
He took them to the top in '98. He could surely do it again.
-
His chances of success at Tennessee are about the same as Prince's at KSU. Both risky for each of the situations involved.

are you people English or retarded? Kiffin: proven college winner. Great 'cruiter and has developed players into not sucking. Prince: SUCKS, was full of suck as an OC. Has never developed a player.

No head coaching experience. Also he recruited to USC, pretty &@#%ing easy to do that.
Big leap of faith for UT.

He was never a head coach, and he failed miserably in the nfl, this is a huge leap of faith IMO, he is getting way too much hype for a man who has never been a head coach in college. I have no clue why everyone is all over this guy. :dunno:

Um, in case some of you weren't paying attention..
He was the head coach at Oakland which really is nothing more than working for a senile old coot that has no business running an NFL team. Kiffen had no chance. However, I do agree it's a leap, but he was a hot commodity before he left for the NFL.

fact: good to great recruiter
fact: great offense at USC
fact: developed nfl talent
fact: worked for an owner who most would agree is the worst in the nfl
fact: was never given control of team which he was promised when he took the job
fact: prince sucks

I don't see where anybody compared Prince to Kiffin.
Does anybody else think that Kiffin gets a look because of his dad?
-
If you want to know the worst owner in the NFL look no further than the Hunts in Kansas City, at least you know that Al Davis wants to win, the hunts could give two craps.
I find it funny that some people here would have loved to get Kiffin. After all the bitching about Prince and his lack of experience, you are going to go out and hire another offensive coord. with no college coaching experience, that is just stupid. Yeah he brought in talent, yeah he sent a lot of kids to the NFL, but one fact that you forgot to mention:
Fact: Recruited for USC, it isnt very hard to recruit kids to USC.
All of your facts are directly related to the talent that they had at USC, the fact is that he is an unproven coach and for a school like TN to take a risk like this doesnt make sense
-
Tennessee shouldn't be hiring an up-and-comer.
-
dear lord what a garbage hire.

And to the tools saying this was bad. version: prince
Kiffin=winner at USC

try reading comprehension next time. I said the chances of success for the given situations is comparable between the two hires. I was NOT comparing the two as head coaches. The factof the matter is Kiffin did well at USC...as an offensive coordinator...for one year. That's his college coaching career highlight. Who the hell couldn't be successful in that situation? Then he went to Oakland which is an NFL job where you are basically a manager which is totally different than being a college coach, developer of talent, recruiter and father figure. This hire is as much of reach for Tennessee as it was when KSU hired Prince, not only because of lack of experience but because he's going into the SEC where he will get his ass handed to him by proven successful college head coaches of many many years. He will need one hell of a staff to make it past four years.

you should really try to watch some college football and understand some of the basics before you try to run your mouth about reading comprehension. The fact of the matter is that football is something you have to try at in all schools. Look at ND, great players, great tradition (better then USC) great theory coach and they suck.
Lane Kiffin was great at his roll(s) at USC for years. Prince was ok to mediocre for his job at USC. He will get his ass handed to him by UF and a few other schools for a few years. The fact is though, he is a proven winner and will get proven winners around him (OC/DC) where as prince only got fools and second hand coaches for his staff. Kiffin has so much more going for him over Prince it isnt even worth the comparison. DCs and OCs who are winners in their rolls at the coordinator level have a much higher likely hood of being winners as HCs. Show me one crap OC/DC who was a succes as a head coach. I'll show you successful OC/DCs who are winners as HCs. Prince was mediocre as an OC and a crap head coach. Kiffin was a great coach at his levels, can you really tell me you dont think the law of averages will prove him out to be a less risky, even successful HC.

Not sure where you are getting proven winner from, thin air maybe? Kiffin was at USC...again, that's USC...OC at USC for one freaking year. Anybody can look successful in any coaching position at USC because they have all other teams beat before they get off the bus at every position. then he sucked at Oakland. Now he's a head coach in the SEC East, the toughest division in college football. not qualified, huge reach based off of name only.
Kiffin has so much more going for him over Prince it isnt even worth the comparison.
You are still comparing Prince to Kiffin directly which, again, wasn't my original point. :flush:

by your standards of tradition/location/program support you would have to agree that Notre Dame is a title contender every year. They have had a few top 10 recuriting classes the past couple years but somehow struggle to get bowl eligable. You have to be a good coach. Further proof that USC's coaches are developing talent would be their recent NFL succes. Kiffin is a good college coach, end of story. /thread
