Wow, chose USC, again? Momma always said if you pick the same option four times in a row, it's yours forever...
-
Swaim also thinks we have no shot with Reed. :frown:

Check the date, Rusty got me as well. Even posted it on GP.
-
I looked at the date at the top of the page, but apparantly that is just the current one. Rusty you are a BOOB! :frown:
-
What's pathetic is I knew the date w/o looking at it, since I saw this while browsing a few weeks ago.

From my of my highly regarded sources
We havnt recruited him in months.
-
I think they are waaaaaaaay behind on their Mayo news ... but more on that later.
-
lol @ powertards being happy ksu is supposedly not recruiting mayo. the longer we're on him, the better our chances. who wouldn't want to take a chance at oj &@#%ing mayo, he's not a headcase
-
[gospelswaim]For a number of reasons I just don't see Reed going to K-State with Huggins.[/gospelswaim]

As a rule, 95% of fans are f-ing idiots.
OJ Mayo would be the greatest thing to happen to KSU basketball since the last final four.

i notice it more with ksu fans. but you're probably right.

It's because you pay more attention to KSU fans.

I don't get it. Why wouldn't people want Mayo?

Thanks Rusty. I can always count on you to bring out the best in any discussion.

I try.
In all seriousness, there is this perception that OJ is a headcase, mainly based (I'm guessing) on the fact that he was suspended from a game in the playoffs and the fact that he has been tight with Huggins.
There is also a notion that KSU would be better served having a bunch of 3-4 year players rather than the best basketball player since LeBron James for one year.
The first perception is mainly caused by ignorance, stereotyping, or a combination of both.
The second is caused by "yearning for the old school" types, or people that just simply don't realize how good OJ Mayo really is.

Beasley is higher rated than mayo is, but stille veryone acts like mayo is far and away the #1. Just curious as to why beasley is #1 and we got him, but people are still all hard for mayo seemingly over anyone else.

Beasley is not better than Mayo, no matter what rivals says. Everyone else has Mayo a cut above any other player.
-
i don't think anybody else in the nation can do a jump shot, shoot a 15 footer, and make it consistently with a hand in his face. when mayo takes over a game, it's a beautiful sight. mayo is by far the most skilled and talented player in this class. beasley is #1 because of his potential and size. course he's more skilled than 99% of the players out there, but the things mayo can do is just ridiculous.

Why wouldn't people want Mayo?
I'm not going to pretend to know any rules or go to the effort of looking them up, but wouldn't a school be penalized for having too many 'one and dones?' That would be a legit reason not to want too many players leaving early, just not necessarily a reason not to want Mayo in particular.

it'll kill graduation rates
but who cares?

Not anymore with GSR.

The second is caused by "yearning for the old school" types, or people that just simply don't realize how good OJ Mayo really is.
also, i think, some just can't get past the idea that ksu can sustainably recruit quality players. they are looking at it as a case of mayo for a year, then 4 years of some scrub rather than a year of mayo, then replace him with a player at least as good as whatever "four-year" point they want instead of mayo. and so on.
at least i think they may be thinking that. hard to know, it is hard to understand what might be going on inside the head of someone who doesn't want mayo.

The penalties will apply to teams that fail to graduate roughly 50 percent of their athletes in a five-year period. For each athlete on that team who flunks out or leaves school in poor academic standing, the school can't re-award his or her scholarship to another athlete for one year. Scholarship losses will be capped, however, to ensure that no football team loses more than nine scholarships and no basketball team loses more than two scholarships in a given year.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A64258-2005Jan10.html
I guess GRCOAT members will need to avoid poor academic standing, whatever that might be.
-
Oh, I just re-read the part about what the penalty applies to: schools w/o 50% grad rate. So with GSR, the players leaving early doesn't affect the grad rate. I guess that's what it means?
-
Staying in "good academic standing" simply means passing the amount of hours you need every year in proportion to your year in school. So after your first year you need to be passing 20% of those hours you need toward your degree, and 40% the next year and so on. For most first year guys those are pretty introductory classes, so as long as a player comes in and passes the minimal # of hours for that year in school, even if they leave, you are fine under the GSR system.
-
Oh Please , I could give a crap about graduation rates. KSU will have the richest alumi in the country! Lets not get confused with the fact or perhaps we should. These guys sign one contract and make a life worth of conventional wages. They can return to school after their careers. I think I'll stop with that! :dancin: I wish they had a mooner!
