Title: How awesome was the onside kick?
Post by: fatty fat fat on September 18, 2006, 11:23:45 PM
I remeber turning to my brother and we joked about the whole "bold and daring" thing and said watch for the onside kick.

IIRC we did recover it...and it did travel 10 yards. So we came pretty close to getting that thing. Also moving back to the 30 yard-line to kickoff wasn't bad since we had the wind.

 :woohoo:

it seems like there was a time when snyder used to do that sort of stuff with jaime rheem and even gramatica.  snyder seemed to get less bold and daring as he got older.

Offsides on the kicking team.  That's a 5 yard penalty.  Re-kick.

Yep.  That was awesome.

Snyder did it once.  1997 vs aTm.

Yep.  That was awesome.

 :blank:

It improves KO coverage.  The front line of KO return teams will always have that at the back of their minds.

I agree with fats...Awesome move by Prince.  He obviously was confident in his defense, too.

I agree it was a great move.  Too bad it didn't work out.

You should expect more out of your team.  Giving them a pass on screwing up a brilliant play is unacceptable.

Why do you hate Ron Prince?  He just doesn't have the talent yet to successfully execute an onside kick.  He's putting his players in positions to be successful...they just don't have the physical ability to get it done.

I had it on TiVo, nobody offsides, went 10 yards, the line had every Marshall player blocked from getting to the ball, we recovered.

It was a thing of beauty.

The ref said differently.

Ask OU if the refs have ever been wrong.

Wouldn't have made a difference.  We still won.

That's not the point. I've watched the play several times - our players executed perfectly - they just came up on the wrong side of a bad call.

Unfortunately that didn't work out. It's the kind of thing you can't really do more then once so it's a shame that we wasted it. Would have rather seen it this week.

If my understanding of the rule is correct then it was not a fumble.  His arm, the one holding the ball, made contact with the ground which jarred the ball loose.  The ball never touched the ground until after it left his possession.  ??

I see you have employed the phog.net method of arguing your point.  Jayhox would be proud.

Its possible Louisville is more disciplined in how they cover KOs, plus Marshall had a pretty vulnerable alignment for it, so I'm sure that's why we tried it.  Having the wind at our backs factored in as well.  The other thing this does is that opponents have to watch for it, which may slow down their scheme for setting up their blocking for their KO return.  Even though it didn't work, it will have a positive effect in how opponents have to prep for us.

Your comment was meaningless.  If the ref saw it, and called it, what difference does it make what you saw?

And I have no idea who "Jayhox" is, but I can see you must be a closet ku fan.  Why anyone spends so much time on that garbage of a website is beyond me.

Oh and uh...

Oh, and that garbage of a website actually has some traffic. You're apparently trying to run off what little you have here.

"Jayhox"'s argument strategy involves long..."vacations" when ku football plays like crap.  It's fun to watch.

Yeah, phog.net just gets so much damn traffic.

You have to wade through 90% of the crap - but yes they do get traffic (more than cat chat and kstatefans) . I read the wabash and check out what the phog has to say - mainly for the comedy. IMO, pittsburgjayhawk is the only sane one over there.

I've noticed Jayhox has been missing lately, probably hunkered down with his "sources"

phog.net is the third best KSU message board, IMO.  Tons of KSU discussion over there.

True.  I can't believe Meier lite's injury barely got a mention.  If we heard DM missed a practice, things would be crazy around here.

true, but if Toledo can beat ku and ULM can come w/n 2 points in Lawrence then anything is possible.

oh, so they're better than ULM?? USF by two touchdowns.

If they lose at home to USF I would be embarrassed if I was a ku fan. They should win by at least 2 touchdowns.

We should win. Dropping a home game like this would not be cool.

But USF isn't a pushover. If we win by 2 touchdowns I'll be happy. I think it will be closer though.

If we lose, we can still get 6 wins but it would take serious improvement. The Big 12 sucks this year, so we got that going for us, which is nice.

yeah but if you guys lose to south florida, i don't see you guys beating anybody in the big12 other than colorado simply because you will already be on a three game losing streak then because of the nu game following usf. ku 3-9

How does a 3 game losing streak equate to being unable to win anything at all?
