He’s competing in the North and taking ku to a bowl game for the consecutive years for the first time in ever. Next year will be the same, but if he manages to get to a bowl again, then he starts (albeit with a new QB) that easier south schedule and it’s not like the North is anything rough. He's the only coach in the North to make it to a BCS bowl as a head coach and assistant. That' ain't bad.

mangino is a good coach and needs to reload his staff w/ recruiters.

and if ku goes bowling at 6-6 they will thrash whoever they are matched up against. there's your winning record.

edit: and i wouldn't count out a win over mzu or ut

If the schedule is responsible for the crummy record this year -- then the schedule is equally responsible for the good record last year. At the end of the year, Mangino will be 1-12 against Top 20 teams lifetime. But, he has raised ku to the level where they beat teams ranked 21-40 fairly consistently, and that is an improvement over the prior coach (although not as good as Glen Mason's best years). Still, he's overpaid for a coach of that ability.
