Title: Martin calls out the Students
Post by: power4PURPLE on November 09, 2008, 10:36:14 PM
In post game press conference, Martin mentioned he was displeased with the turnout from the students.
When asked if he thought there was any explanation to the poor showing Coach said...
"I don't know why. You'd have to ask them.....I dunno, maybe there was a big mid-term you know?.....Maybe there was a big bowling thing in town or something....I don't know."

      :notworthy:

Besides the fact that Frank Martin is hilarious, I think he's got a point. 2:30 on a cold Sunday afternoon?? If student tickets went so fast, what else were they busy doing?

Other than winning, keeping a solid staff, and recruiting there really isn't much difference.

Yeah, well the people paying for their seats were not there either. Martin is the man and all. I can't disagree with the man. The fan base that was there did not brig the A game. Let's just regroup and get it back together.

The students kept trickling in until about the ten minute mark of the first half, and the ones that were stayed for the entire game.  Not a great turnout but it was Washburn.  The excessive foul calling and the fact that Brown played made it a terrible game to watch. Either way, I think they'll show up in full force this weekend.

I think this pretty much confirms that this is the worst students we've had in about 20 years.  Football is somewhat understandable but pre-season hoops? :dunno: (ftp://:dunno:)

Even if we suck it's an opportunity to get a great seat to watch D1 basketball, at a cheap price.  I mean, seriously, who the hell wouldn't jump at that chance? It baffles me that any basketball fan wouldn't wanna be there for those facts alone.  Being there to watch us beat the hawks was one of the greatest experiences of my life, but like I said above, I think it will fill up next game... Even though the turn out should have been better yesterday.  I mean god damn people, we live in Manhattan Kansas!!!11!!!  Even if you hate basketball wtf else is there to do on a cold Sunday afternoon?!?!?  :curse:

Yesterday's turnout was no different than the last two or three years' turnout for the exhibition games. Everyone complains about the low attendance every year about this time too.

We have the same issue every year and we likely always wil.  K-State fans have proven for years that they will be "wait and see" fans when it comes to hoops.  Huggs and Beasley/Walker brought fans, but I'm not surprised to see a large part of our fan base go back to that mode.  We should be able to get a better base than under Wooly/Asbury, but I doubt we'll see the 12K average home attendance we've seen the last couple years.  I think an average of 10K plus would be a pretty good goal this year.

I could fix this student turnout thing in like a week, merely by revamping the halftime entertainment.  Should be exclusively focused on entertaining the students.

I think it's funny that when people are upset about attendance turnouts the first place they turn to to fix it is KSU sports message board, because clearly these are the people responsible for any apathy towards K-State sports.

just get people to go to the games, that was embarrassing yesterday. How we can get 45,000+ to a horrible football game but get probably... 5,000 if that to a basketball team that should be pretty good, especially in the north, and definitely better than our football team.

Actually, Frank nailed this one on the head. Many students have tests, and there also was intramural bowling going on on Sunday during the exhibition game.
The students were spoiled last year. We had beasley and walker, 2 of the most explosive players in the country. Everyone was excited to see them. Who does this year's team have? Pullen--we've all seen him last year. Sutton--same. It's just hard to get excited to watch a game that doesnt count for anything with players we've all seen before.

K-State Students:

If you weren't in Bramlage Coliseum yesterday, you missed a great start to our 2008-09 season. Jacob Pullen led the team with 21 points in our 81-57 victory over Washburn, and our new guys got their first game as a Wildcat under their belt. Denis Clemente has made an immediate impact on our team scoring 12 points and leading the team with 5 assists.

For those of you who celebrated with us on the court last season when we ended the streak and beat ku, you know what a special place Bramlage Coliseum can be. And of course, the electricity of Bramlage Coliseum would not exist if not for the K-State student body.

When you, the students, have called on me, I have responded every time. Now I am calling on you! We need your help. Order your season tickets before they are made available to the general public. What I'm challenging you to do this year is to make Bramlage Coliseum the toughest arena in the country, night-in and night-out, from the first game until the last.

One way we'll reward the students who support our team throughout the season is through the Sunflower Showdown Sweepstakes. After each home game, two students who attended that game will be drawn at random. They will each be awarded priority seating for themselves and a friend for the ku game on February 14.

This will ensure that our team's biggest supporters are sitting closest to the court, without having to wait in line.

I'm looking forward to another successful K-State Basketball Season. I hope you'll be there along the way, including this Friday, November 14, as we take on Florida A&M in Bramlage at 7PM.

Thank you for supporting us, and GO STATE!

I am a student and I was at the game, but in all honesty, the University did a terrible job at letting the more casual student fans know that there was a game on Sunday. There was nothing in the Collegian on Friday talking about the start of basketball season, and in today's Collegian, there wasn't even a hint that we opened the season yesterday. I realize the Collegian sucks, but they didn't even mention that we played a game yesterday.

Hopefully these preferred seats are right in the front of the student section, that way ref-guy, wide-reciever-gloves-guy, hockey-jersey-guy, pudgy-yet-distinguishable-guy, amelia-earhart (lesbian in jumpsuit), and all of their cronies wont be sitting front row.

 :bootyshake:

QFT ...they are all 4square playing dbags. Ref guy is a little whinny girl.  man tits needs to choke on a chicken bone and well you know

They got to every conference game at six in the morning.  Odds are good that some of them would have been in that section anyway.

I bet ref guy dominates you in 4 square, and that lesbian in the jumpsuit cherry bombed in your face.

She didn't really play much.  But would have most definitely dominated everyone there with the excellent mobility carharts have to offer.  Anyway, what makes me mad is that I'm just one of the "cronies."  It's lonely being the doomsign guy.   :'(
