Game Changing Coaches
Tuesday  October 21, 2008

tcu (Defensive Staff): In the Horned Frog’s 32-7 impressive win over BYU, the tcu defense forced 4 turnovers, recorded 7 sacks, and limited BYU to 23 yards rushing.  “Nobody has been able to do that to BYU for a couple of years,” tcu coach Gary Patterson said. “No way I could have seen it coming.”  tcu held the BYU offense to 155 yards under their season average of 452 yards per game.  Since January, a BYU logo was placed on a blocking dummy in the tcu weight room.  Seems like that motivation tactic worked nicely.  The 4-2-5 defensive scheme kept BYU guessing all night long.  It was a dominant performance by Gary Patterson’s crew.

Dick Bumpas (Defensive Coordinator / Defensive Line)
  Chad Glasgow (Safeties)
  Clay Jennings (Cornerbacks)
  Tony Tademy (Linebackers)
  Trey Haverty (Defensive Graduate Assistant)

Maryland (Defensive Staff): Give credit to defensive coordinator Chris Cosh and the Maryland defensive staff for their preparation and performance against Wake Forest.  In the 26-0 shutout victory, the Terps’ defense limited Wake Forest to only 219 yards while recording 4 sacks.  Maryland allowed just 14 first downs, 73 net yards rushing, and 3 of 15 third down conversions.  Only 3 Wake Forest drives resulted in more than 30 total yards.  Most impressively, both sudden change opportunities when Wake Forest started drives inside the Maryland 30 yard line, the Terps held the Deacons to field goal attempts (both missed).  That’s a heck of a performance.

Chris Cosh (Defensive Coordinator / Inside Linebackers)
   Kevin Lempa (Secondary)
Al Seamonson (Outside LB’s / Special Teams Assistant)
Dave Sollazzo (Defensive Line / Recruiting Coordinator)
   Henry Baker (Defensive Graduate Assistant)
