FYI-
#1. Bob Stoops - OU: $6,500,000
#2. Mack Brown - UT: $2,900,000
#3. Mark Mangino - ku: $2,300,000
#4. Gary Pinkle - MU: $1,875,000
#6 (tie). Mike Sherman - A&M: $1,800,000
#6 (tie). Art Briles - Baylor: $1,800,000
#8. Mike Leach - T Tech: $1,750,000
#11 (tie). Bo Pelini - NU: $1,100,00
#11 (tie). Dan Hawkins - CU: $1,100,000
#11 (tie). Gene Chizik - ISU: $1,100,000
#11 (tie). Ron Prince - KSU: $1,100,000
#12. Mike Gundy - OSU: $1,050,000
Others of note:
Gary Patterson - tcu: $1,300,000

Leach is very underpayed considering his experience (9th season at Tech) and good teams he has built. I'm starting to warm to the idea of stealing Leach if Patterson does not come home.
-
The thing I find interesting is that for a school that operates $6 million in the black (K-State), that there is this weird assumption by some of our fans that we can't afford a coach like Gary Patterson.
In actuality, there's no reason that we cannot and should not be paying the next coach Mark Mangino money considering the overall profitablility of our department. In fact, when you look at the revenue impact of season tickets and donations, K-State really can't afford not to.
At $2.3, Gary Patterson would be earning a million dollars more annualy than his current gig. No way he turns that down if it's put on the table.
-
I think the "takeaway" here is that we can probably go after someone with the statement that we'll make them a "top 3" paid coach in the Big 12.....at least I hope that is the case.

There is another article on the website concerning Colorado's move to a new conference, comprised of teams from the MWC and WAC. (Scroll down, it's the second article.) Supposedly, the Big 12 would then add tcu, Houston, and SMU; forming the Big 14. The new "Super Conference" would be divided up into the north and south divisions or "The Texas Schools and The Other Schools." Don't really know why our conference would want Houston or SMU, other than they are good at baseball. And it's not like Colorado is really bringing much to the table lately.

Not for long. And talk about a guy who actually deserves his raise. :shy:
-
Exactly. You offer Patterson 2.5 at a minimum. And a long contract with a huge buyout.

We pay an AAU pimp $400k. Cash is like, flowing out of our ears.

If we could find two more we could just call it the "Big SWC".

It's obvious that the university is willing to shell out bucks for a successful b-ball team, I can't imagine why we wouldn't do the same for the big cash cow of college sports, football. Hell, it's worth it for private donors to kick in bucks for a better coach's salary. Imagine the hit local businesses would take if those home games' attendance dropped in half.

KSU paid $600,000 just to get out of the Fresno State loss and set up the Montana State game.
Heck, if we hire a coach who can actually beat teams like Fresno State, that's a $600,000 savings right there! (How much to buy out UCLA next year?)

The way UCLA is playing, we may want to keep that one.

Pound for pound the best bargain of the bunch. :D

Man, Gundy is getting the shaft...hell he is even their Offensive Cord.

Not too worried about UCLA. They look even worse than us this year. A non-con win over a BCS team next year will be nice.
-
I think Hawk is the biggest steal considering previous experience/Leach the most egregious overall
Gundy will get paid, it is probably already in the works.
-
expect us to fall into last place with all those other teams keeping their coaches and giving them raises as they have better seasons than they had prior to this year...i think its funny that baylor is finally shelling out the money but then again look at where their program is heading... :nutkick: compared to us

Mike leach is right where he should be, the guy cant win anything big (never won the south) and his defense is pathetic every year. How much do you want the guy to make?

wtf has Briles or Mangino or Sherman done?
:flush:
-
Leach would contend for the north every 2 or 3 years. I'd take Leach in a heartbeat.

He'd win the north every year.
