Title: emoticon usage
Post by: Rick Daris on October 15, 2008, 03:05:55 PM
I know this has kind of been discussed before, but I am finding myself using emoticons from here in real life. Mainly just  :nono: and  :ohno: but I'm scared it is getting worse. I just sent an email to they guy who is technically my boss and really, really wanted to put one of these at the end  :ohno: as kind of a joke.

Should I be concerned about this

Only if you keep a deck of emoticon cards on you and you use them during a real conversation.

I have had many times when I am talking to somebody where most of these emoticons would express my true feelings better than words.

Jeffy really is more like an emoticon than anyone on this board (except maybe goldy  :ku:).

I'm getting more use out of "wtf" when describing our defense rather than looking up stats.

Most of my fellow internet saavy message board users get these acronymns immediatley.

Such as

omg our d made a stop

QFT.  I wish there was a verbal way to express   :flush:  among others.

Speaking of QFT, do you ever let internet acronyms slip into your conversations?  The next day after the Louisville debacle I was talking with some guys at work and I actually mumbled "Quoted for Truth"   Thankfully nobody heard me.  That was kind of a wakeup call that maybe I'm spending too much time on these boards.    :-[

And you only have 300 posts, which puts you at the second lowest total on this thread.  Imagine what the 7000+ers are doing.  Their whole day is   :blank: :users: :)      :woot:  :ohno:  :curse: :crybaby: :beerchug: :flush:

'lams emoticon to lexicon translator, each used as often as possible-
:flush: = flush
QFT = QFT
:users: = users, meaning i'm bored
  = wtf
 8-) = cool
  = whatever
