Nice selection. That Tribe song/video is one of my alltime favorites. Who did those guys think they were with their U2/Bono rooftop video? Scrawny legs but I move just like Lou Brock...

I'm thinking about doing a thread like kono's cubswin thread but with less sucky baseball talk and more oldschool rap videos. Only problem is that we may be the only two who like it and everyone else would make fun.  :frown:

i think j-mart likes it, he's around my age.  rusty likes some of the old stuff i've introduced him to.  and besides, no one else liked the cubs but that didn't stop kono did it?  i say go for it, i'll pin the bitch.

i wish there was some way to download the music off of youtube, i'd consider buying an ipod if i could listen to this stuff all the time.

First entry to the official "old skool" thread (most wont be this long  :blahblah: )....

On the same tribe album as "Check the Rhime" they did the song "Scenario" with Leaders of the New School (LONS-Which featured a very young Buster Rhymes). Anyway one of my favorite songs of all time is the remix of "Scenario"  which served as the B side to the single (back in the days of cassette tapes). There was an MC named Kid Hood who was up and coming and shot and killed a few days after they recorded the "Scenario Remix" and Buster talks about this on the intro of the song.

Here is the video for "Scenario" -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFZLq6R-ZtM

Here is Tribe and LONS doing "Scenario" on Arsenio (Buster comes on around 3:00  )-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BLNQVEEzJE

Here is "Scenario Remix" no video or anything but one of my favorite songs of alltime imo-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7syWx2U8uk

More Digital. I saw both Digital Underground and Sugarhill Gang in college (South Padre). Peed right next to guy from Sugar Hill with attempted conversation on my part about the finert points/parts of Matamoros. He didn't seem very interested...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAy8d0oyElg

Also, Money B (from Digital Underground) along with the piano man had a side/solo project called Raw Fusion. Both videos are hilarious and if you look closely you can see Tupac dancing around a lot, which is about all he did the first year or two that he was in was in the music industry...

Ya man I loved Tribe, have all their albums.  Always thought LONS could do better but I think they were "too black" and not mainstream enough.  Good music though.

Even as you read this, white people are telling other white people about the golden age of Hip Hop that they experienced in a suburban high school or through a viewing of The Wackness.

If you are good at concealing laughter and contempt, you should ask a white person about “Real Hip Hop.”  They will quickly tell you about how they don’t listen to “Commercial Hip Hop” (aka music that black people actually enjoy), and that they much prefer “Classic Hip Hop.”

“I don’t listen to that commercial stuff. I’m more into the Real Hip Hop, you know?  KRS One, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, De La Soul, Wu Tang, you know, The Old School.”

The Wire is the most underhyped show of all time. (IMO)

http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/03/09/85-the-wire/

For the past three years, whenever you say “The Wire” white people are required to respond by saying “it’s the best show on television.” Try it the next time you see a white person! Though now they might say “it WAS the best show on television.”

I'll admit, I throughly enjoy, like 99% of what that guy lists.

KRS One, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, De La Soul, Wu Tang, you know, The Old School.”

well, that makes sense to me, given that I'm white.  and yes, Kanye West still eats a fat dick.

The Wire is the most underhyped show of all time. (IMO)

For the past three years, whenever you say “The Wire” white people are required to respond by saying “it’s the best show on television.” Try it the next time you see a white person! Though now they might say “it WAS the best show on television.”

I'll admit, I throughly enjoy, like 99% of what that guy lists.

:skillz:

I'm only on board with about 90-95% of it, but was told by my mother before she died that there is a chance I'm 1/8 Japanese so this might explain the descrepancy.  :dunno:

As a white honky who was in that suburban high school in the mid-90s I'll only say I am as much of fan of Tony Toni Tone and A Tribe Called Quest then as I am Raphael Saadiq, The Roots, and Outcast now.
