I dunno, man. Have you seen or heard much of Dejuan Blair? He may not be as talented as Pope (and he may be, I don't know), but he's got his head on straight and sounds like a great guy. I don't necessarily prefer one over the other, but I'd be very happy to get Blair.
"He didn't even show up at the Nike camp and he really didn't play all that much this summer," Stright said. "We all know he's talented, but a lot of schools just don't like his attitude, and I'm sure some people are looking at his grades, too."
Those are some nasty, nasty words coming from a former coach. Geez. I'm kind of confused because Huggins is tight with both Stright and Rex Morgan at Arlington Country Day, where Pope is reportedly headed for his senior year. Since Stright is Huggins's right-hand man, I'm assuming that he's encouraging Huggins to back off of Pope because of Pope's apparent attitude problems. I think that Huggie needs to do whatever he can to stay away from shady recruits (I know, I know, MCMW). All this news on Pope is certainly a warning sign.

Blair is a rising star. By the time next summer rolls around I'm thinking he will easily be in the Top-50 for HS school players. The reason he isn't rated higher than he is right now is because he was injured and didn't get to play much last year. This summer on the AAU circuit he tore up the place with intense defense and rebounding skills.
Pope, on the other hand, seems to be a falling star. I think he and Mayo have been reading way too many of their press clippings and both have come to the conclusion that they are already stars. Plus, as mentioned, Pope seems to be a head case. Give me Beasley, Walker, and Blair, plus a top 50 point guard. Fill the other spots with solid four year players, and KSU is going to be sitting very pretty for the 2007 season.

If Stright really wants to steer Huggins away from Pope, why would he do it publicly? Maybe Stright is being tough on Pope in hopes that he will get his act together. He will need to graduate, afterall. That seems more likely to me. I can't see any possible way that Huggins is in the process backing off of Pope primarily because Pope will play for Arlington Country Day. I don't think Huggins would consider an attitude problem something that he can't fix. I don't know why it wouldn't be full steam ahead with Herb Pope's recrutiment.

God I would so much rather have Blair than Pope. Cant we just let Pitino worry about this headcase.

I saw video of a Blair interview (ABCD camp?) a few weeks ago. The guy seems to have the personality to be a media darling if he ever makes it big, as does Bill Walker. Those guys have charisma leaking out of their pores.
