Title: Gay ...

Wildcat Walk ... cliche and gay.

Ron "Cliche" Prince.

Winning creates bandwagon fans. We don't need any of those.

I don't like either as of now, but I'm sure every though "good for a wildcat first down" was gay back before we owned the conference.

My main point is, KSU Stadium is not a collegial atmosphere around the stadium.   Dropping off the guys on a big blacktop parking lot isn't anywhere close to the "walks" that other teams do at other schools.

When they get Jardine redeveloped, that's going to be an awesome place, with a big archway on the one corner going into campus and the study/meeting tower, and the walk through the middle past ponds and such ... then doing something like a "walk" will be cool.

But not now.

This world has ceased having anything that would not be considered cliche.

My first thought when I saw this was:  "What?  They're gonna do a walk across the parking lot?  Uh, cool?"

Dax is still bitter they didn't get his trees planted in the parking lots. :)

I agree completely. Has there been an announcement about this? Where will the players start/come from? Will they be bused in and just walk off the bus into the parking lot? Just let them concentrate on the game. Sounds like it's time for Prince to focus on winning games and less time on how to get fans involved. Prince has to have Snyder going crazy.

I agree with dax that this is a lame idea, and the fact that dax and I, or any ku fan, agree on something is remarkable.  But I digress.

The thing that I wonder about is why on Earth is Ron Prince so intent on shining the spotlight on himself and the team (usually in that order) right after replacing Coach Snyder?   You would think that it would be enough of a challenge to be a first time head head coach at a high profile school, coming off of 2 straight losing seasons, and replacing a legend without constantly calling attention to himself and the team.

It's all about marketing an image.  Without the types of traditions Prince is attempting to develop, it's tougher to market kids.  Prince started early on by developing a newer, younger image of KSU Football that Snyder never really got too much into  :P

I don't know what kind of coach that Prince will turn out to be, no one does yet.  One thing he's proven already though is that he does understand the importance of creating the KSU Football brand image and using all channels available to him to deliver it to potential recruits, as well as fans.
Title: Re: Gay ...
Post by: IceHawkE on August 29, 2006, 08:55:38 PM
Since the early 90's the reality of KSU football was a hard nosed, effecient, and very successful football program.   If RP has to market an image, then it say more about the program than it does about RP.
Title: Re: Gay ...
Post by: pissclams on August 29, 2006, 09:06:49 PM
Actually, every business needs to continue to evolve and redefine itself to cater to its customers/recruits.
Prince is putting his mark on the program, doesn't mean we can't still be hard nosed, efficient, and successfull does it?
If you can tell me the harm in the Wildcat Walk or whatever the hell he wants to call it we can discuss further, if you simply don't like the idea I don't think it matters much since your not the reason it was created anyways.

Okay fine, RP is selling the program.

This is starting to sound more and more like a has-been program, with a lot of hope by the KSU faithful that this doesn't slip any further.   Bottom line is that if KSU football program was not in such a perilous state, RP would have no reason to have to sell, market, or whatever else you call it to get fan interest.

Otherwise, why not hunker down and just get the job done without all the fanfare BS?

Kids don't care about gay ass traditions, they care about playing for a winner.  Prince can market the fact that unlike KSU's last HC he's not old enough to need carbon dating and the kids will react to it.  His biggest problem (other than the fact that his team is about to start playing games) is that his public persona is a bit too much P.T. Barnum and not quite enough Clint Eastwood.  Nothing wrong with a little marketing but RP needs to get with the program and shift into, "Go ahead, make my day," mode pronto.

But unlike our squawk neighbors at least he doesn't have to market the fact tht his ass is so massive that its gravitational pull sucks the sh1t right back in.  (And you guys thought no one could explain why Mangino just keeps on getting bigger).   :yuck:

If you can tell me the harm in the Wildcat Walk or whatever the hell he wants to call it we can discuss further, if you simply don't like the idea I don't think it matters much since your not the reason it was created anyways.

The only harm this can do is if there are no fans there to welcome the Team across the parking lot, and it just an awkward jog to the staduim.... If I were a player and I was told we were going to walk through a sea of fans to get them hyped up, and no one showed, that would probably hurt my confidence a bit... Likewise, if it turned out to a couple thousand screaming beatles style, I'd be that much more jacked... I think this idea is lame now, but could actually turn into a pretty cool tradition that the young children will probably love - and light that fire a little earlier in the players.

Called the "Wildcat Walk," K-State players and coaches will be dropped off approximately two-and-a-half hours prior to each game at Gate 3 on College Avenue in the west parking lot of Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The team will then make its way to the stadium through the parking lot on foot, eventually entering the facility through Gate C on the west concourse.

The program is encouraging fans to participate in the "Wildcat Walk" throughout the season by lining a path to the stadium and greeting the players as they arrive on game day.

That's a long fricking walk. I think pulling up on Kimball in front of Vanier and having them walk in with fans forming a path sounds better.

That's why I said that's a piece of it.
Kids also like to feel like they can help rebuild, turnaround, have an impact.

Winners usually have a lot of talent, too much talent in front of you means it's going to be hard to see the field.

At the end of the day if you don't give a crap about the Wildcat Walk don't go watch them walk the lot, not that big of an issue eh?

Here's the thing ... Snyder wouldn't have thought of  doing this.

You think he'd really want his guys walking across a blacktop parking lot at 3 pm in early September??

I understand one thing being tossed about by the folks at HOK, is an "avenue" entry running through the middle of the West Parking Lot up to a totally overhauled West Side of the Stadium.  Doing a "walk" through something like that would be cool.

There's a tradition I miss...it's called winning and hitting and playing with toughness.  And playing SMART...ie. not snapping the football without a punter back there or fielding a punt and fumbling it to give the game away, etc...

I loved the picture of the ku football team behind the scoreboard after they beat........Missouri. A team KSU hasn't lost to since 1992.

There's a tradition I miss...it's called winning and hitting and playing with toughness.  And playing SMART...ie. not snapping the football without a punter back there or fielding a punt and fumbling it to give the game away, etc...
That's Weiser's fault?  I'd blame Chum1.

Why?  All I ever did was email the below picture to Tim Weiser signed, "Sincerely, sonofdaxjones."

And before you reply with the obligatory "Notre Dame, Miami, FSU don't have to reinvent themselves", I'll go ahead and admit that we're not Notre Dame, Miami, or FSU.

Didn't Prince say something to the effect that when he was done with Kstate they'd be thought of in college football moreso than ND?
Are you looking for someone to defend that statement?

Tim Weiser reads these boards. Maybe he will.
