Title: Hoodie Style
Post by: catdude33 on September 02, 2008, 01:12:04 PM
'ams wanted a hoodie thread.  I will oblige.

I occassionally will wear a zip up hoodie.  But very rarely.  Typically if its a little to warm for a hoodie, but I want to rock one anyway, I'll sport the zip front and push up the sleeves.  This seems to be very socially acceptable in slightly warmer than ideal situations.

One thing I am particular about in my hoodie is that it not be too big.  I don't like a baggy fitting hoodie.  If I  push my sleeves up I don't want it to be so bunched up around my upper arms that it keeps flopping down over the cuff, you know?  Also if it's too big often the pocket in the front hangs down and I look like a mama Kangaroo carrying her Joey.

Now for the hood.  If I'm wearing my hood it's because of the weather conditions, not as a fashion statement.  Therefore, I hate hoodies with the tiny little hood that doesn't lay flat when it's off and can barely fit over your head when its on.  You can usually recognize these types of hoods because of the Klu Klux Klan-ish point extending from the top.

My ideal hoodie:  not oversized, big hooded, and of course  :ksu:

Nike hoodies are about 3 sizes bigger fitting than reg. sized hoodies.  My Nike hoodie is so big is can fit two of me in it.  It is perfect for laying around and watching the game or visiting local non-trendy sports bar for the same.  Kinda disagree with your snug fitting liking'ness.

Adidas makes the best hoodies.  Thick material and soft to the touch with a killer pouch.  Trust me, the ladies like the Adidas.

Best hoodie I ever had was a black velour adidas one.

I actually have 3 different style (kinda) hoodies.

I have the thick and snug Adidas one.  Good for being outdoors a fair amount of time.  It also fits under my coat for cold kstate/chiefs games.

I have a really big Nike one that I swim in.  A good one to lay around in inside the house.

I also have a really thin grey kstate one, which isn't much thicker than a t-shirt.  This is my go-to 50 degree hoodie.

I also have one zipper hoodie which I could wear if it is border line 50-60 degrees, but I kinda feel ghey wearing it, so I don't do it much.  If you do see me wearing it, it is only because I'm jonesin' to wear hoodies already.

wow.  really low hoodie iq on display here by some pretty respected posters.

anywho.  the hoodie bible begins and ends with a chapter on Champion reverse weave hoodies, like below:

notice the huge front pocket (old school) and champion logo on the left sleeve.  the proper champion reverse weave hoodie weighs in around 100lbs and is impossible to tear or rip.

The sad fact is Adidas owns the hoodie world.  Everything else Adidas = suckage.  If Nike can get its act together and make a nike elite hoodie with reasonable material, then I might change my mind:

A mock up I made that should be sold.

I've got an Indiana Pacers hoodie. It's a lighter one so safe for 50 degrees. It's also cool to wear because i've got that "I'm cooler than you because I watch the NBA" feel to it.

Do ppl wear t-shirts under their hoodies or not?  I always wear a t-shirt under it.

Def.  A good hoodie has good, heavy stitching.  An undershirt is a must.

A couple times when I was late for a class and had no clean shirts I threw on my hoodie with no undershirt.   I felt like everyone knew and was looking and laughing at me.

QFT on the weird feeling part, done the same myself a time or two. I view a hoodie as a polo or a button up shirt. its got the little v-neck thing going on so you gotta wear an undershirt.

i have an underarmour one that is light and warm. Pretty much bad ass, also doesn't have to heavy of an underlaying so you can go without an undershirt and still be ok. I won't recomend this however because if you have to wear it in a building, like school for a long period of time it can get hot. you don't want to ruin the sleves so rolling them up is out. I can't think of any other way other than benig SOL and hot.
