Let's hear about your poker tear

My -4k downswing?
Just razzin, but the nice run ended today though. Dropped a little over 1k. Gotta love variance. I'm in 'hattan now, so I can't post my sweet downswing, as my desktop is in Lawrence.
-
I got skunked tonight.
I'm looking at QdJh in small blind. I call 2 dollars. I think there is 6 people in the pot, 8 playing. pot = 12 dollars.
Flop is Ah, Kd, 10d. I check.
BB bets 75.
folds around to me, I push in what I have $106. He calls.
He shows his Ad, 4d, while I show my straight. Oohs and awes because I already got this pot with 65%.
Next card... 9d..oops
To make things worse, another diamond came out giving me a loser flush. God that hurts. :banghead:

lol...gotta love it. Sick beat though.

yeah, what was I going to do...seriously...not call when I know I have the best possible hand at the time?
The only thing I could of possibly done wrong was slow play a straight with a possible flush draw. The only reason I did it was because a) it was a pretty friendly table with a long history of 5 dollar/10 dollar bets and b) I was in first position.
I'm pretty sure if I would of bet 10, he would of called me and won anyways. The only speculation is if I could tear myself off a straight for a possible flush draw.

qft, hard to deciper.
what i got from it was people basically trying to trash his winning, imo.
stuns, i'm taking a stats class (sucks) and all our problems are like, "so, you are given a 5 card hand in poker. what is the probability it will be a "flush", etc...."
just saying 'cause you always were curious about your 'ajor.

they are giving crap because he plays short stacked (on purpose) and goes all in at small tables. The most he will lose is 30 dollars or abouts at a time. They want him to step up and play big tables like that because you need a crap load of capital (and a lot of balls) to play big stakes that way.
Lot of people think you are just bullying the table and getting lucky all the time so they don't give a lot of respect.

online poker has gotten weird since i quit playing...casinos are the win.

It's just a new get rich quick scheme for online poker...not that weird  Let me know the next time you go to the casinos to play, piss.

just meant that online players never gave shortstacks crap when i played, although i never really paid much attention to the chatbox and def never went to forums to brag. of course, i never had a 2k day either, at poker 8-)
-

Like dr00d said, I am a shortstacker. Not small tables anymore though. :) Also, prob not get rich either, there really aren't very many shortstackers around...I was the only one at $3/$6, and there is only like 4 total of us at $2/$4. There is a lot more to shortstacking than most think. It takes a lot of math, but what a lot of people don't realize is that there is a lot of hand-reading, looking at opponent's stats and tendancies, I take a ton of notes, whatev, to become a good one. What separates the good ones from the suck is post-flop play. Most people fail at hard shortstacking. Hell I dunno how I even became one of the better shortstackers on Full Tilt. The guy who coached me said most of his own students failed at it, and when I started out, I was playing low-limit tourneys and had like a 1k roll, and took a huge risk paying $125 an hour for lessons. I did study a ton I guess. There is less variance in shortstacking though. While full-stackers can pull in double easily, when they lose, they also lose double worse than I do. Our win-rates are similar though, so in the long-run it comes out the same. So 2k isn't a big deal to people who play $2/$4, and especially $3/$6, but it is good for shortstacking. Also, I mainly played $1/$2 with shots at $2/$4, so I never really had a chance to hit 2k.
I turn 21 mid-November. If you guys go to the casinos, hit me up y0. 8-)

holy shiz. i used to think i was good at poker. now i feel very amateur.

LMAO - you're gonna freak when you finally sit down at a casino table...good times. hard to play naturally at first but over time your natural tendencies will take over. playing online IMO is an advantage because the only constant thing you have going for you is your knowledge of the players tendencies around you, and sometimes luck, so the good players get good at noticing how the other d00dz at the table are playing and what they're playing, and it becomes part of how you play, you rely on it. at the casinos there's a whole load of chit going on and it's a lot harder to focus on the small things. when i first started at the boats i was like wtf why do i keep losing? but then i kept going every weekend and got back to my normal game after getting used to a d00dz next to me looking like he was dying of aids and a d000ds to my right eating chicken wings at the table and the fat lady across from me scratchin her vag at the table. + everything else that's going on at the place.
a lot more fun tho in the long run.

Biggest thing for me is something I would call ADD at the poker table. When you first start playing at the tables, not only are you looking at all those people doing stupid stuff or the stinky bastard next to you, you have to wait for cards. You can't play 3 or 4 tables at the same time.
Transition from fast play to really slow is killer for a lot of newbs. They want to get in there and play every hand because they can't stand sitting around doing nothing for 10 minutes. The only thing I had going for me is that I played a crap LOAD of bar poker when I was in manhattan. This made me very aware of how boring it can be waiting for cards. The only difference now tournament play vs cash games. Cash games are REALLY slow since you should only be playing when you think you have the best hand. Don't try to get fancy and steal a pot in a cash game until you know your persons you are playing against. They bite, and they bite hard.

Well, I went to Oklahoma once for pokerz. I did freak. Hit a boat on the river like the 5th hand vs. some drooler slowplaying trips until the very end, and couldn't stop shaking afterwards. Then like, played only elite starting hands and slowly bled away my monies. I sucked then though compared to now, but I'm sure I'd still freak. But ya most internet pokers players usually tighten up like crazy live. Live is such a diff world than online. I play 6max online, and every other raise I put in, I get 3bet. Esp at the mid-stakes, ppl are f-ing nuts. For example, (say I'm fullstacking), if you open from the cutoff, and your opponent on the button has any suited connector, random rag hand, or monster...actually pretty much any playable hand, you are going to get 3bet. Then you are out of position, and having to play a huge pot. Obv there is a reason behind it, mainly polarizing your range and taking the initiative, but thats just an example of how different it is. 6max online is just a race to see who can stack the fish. Live, its like, limp, limp, limp, raise, call, call, call, call. I guess live plays like, 5x easier at the stakes than online or whatev. Still, if you guys want to gambooooool, lmk!

btw I will be sure to post epic, multi thousand dollar downswing graph following my heater. :ksu: :ksu: :ksu:
Also, give me some support! KAbdulJabballer on full tilt, say hi!!! Right now!!!

WTF. I didn't understand what you just said. Stacking fish?
Speaking of which stuns, how much longer are you at ku? Moving to Lawrence in Jan to finish my degree. Wouldn't mind getting a small "for fun" weekly hold'em tourney going. Like $5-10 buyins, some cool guys to hang out with, and some brews. Good times.
It's not like we have a lot of emaw'ing to do over our teams this season, but it would be good to have a ksu ally in lawrence.

Fish = bad players
I have no idea how much longer I'm going to be at ku. I might drop out. But some home games would be fun. There has to be a bunch, don't know of any though.
