Title: Gramatica in tough battle to keep Saints job

On the one hand, the Saints have veteran Martin Gramatica, the former K-State kicker. On the other … Taylor Mehlhaff, the first kicker drafted last spring.

“Martin has been consistent,” Saints coach Sean Payton said. “When we brought him in last year, he came in in a tough situation and did a good job.”

Gramatica made all five of his field-goal attempts and all eight extra points after Olindo Mare went down with an injury. But the prospect of a strong young kicker tempted the Saints in the sixth round.

Mehlhaff has hit booming kickoffs during practice; however, he was less consistent in the Saints’ opening preseason game in Arizona last week. He hit his only field-goal attempt.

“For the most part, for the rest of my career, I’m sure I’ll be competing with guys younger than me, but that’s fine,” Gramatica said. “I feel better now than I have in the past few years. I worked out hard in the offseason, so I feel really good.”

He then jumped into the arms of the reporter.

Gramatica's a complete headcase. How many times did he and his idiot brother hurt themselves celebrating after kicks?

Martin never hurt himself celebrating his kicks...it's just that he makes a big deal about making 30 yarders..

It's Bill that pulled is vagina.

So what was the real story of why Martin flamed out with the Bucs? He went from being one of the best kickers in the league to being a complete headcase that was having difficulty with chip shots.

In case you hadn't noticed, all kickers are complete nutjobs.

Speaking of kickers. You see this Fera kid? Kicker for the 2009 class from houston, his top four schools are Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, & us. All have offered him too.

That's crazy. I don't really follow kicker recruiting but being offered by the likes of OSU, UM, & PSU. You have to atleast be decent. :shy:

Unbelievably good in college.  When he broke the record it would have been good from another 10 yds out, easy.  Best I've ever seen.  Every kick would split the uprights (I always wanted to say split the uprights, glad I had this chance ).

If he's as smart as he is a good kicker, he will pick the school with a real football tradition and a DOD.
