Title: Special Teams
Post by: catsfan20012002 on August 22, 2006, 07:16:33 PM
Tim Reyer, in 68 punts, averaged 40 yards/punt last season (including a 65 yarder). 18 of those punts (26%) were downed inside the 20 yard line. He had 8 punts of at least 50 yards.

Jeff Snodgrass averaged 60 yards/kickoff last season (including 22 touchbacks). He also made 10-16 (63%) FG's and 21-23 (91%) XP's.

Our top return specialists (Jermaine Moreira and Yamon Figurs) also return. Moreira averaged 10.6 yards/punt return. He also averaged 22.7 yards/kickoff return. Figurs averaged 24.7 yards/kickoff return and 13.1 yards/punt return.

Marcus Watts and Carlos Alsup can also return kicks.

Why do I bring this up? Because, in the last two years, the Cats lost 5 games by one possession.

Special Teams will be big.  If Prince can get us back into the ne big special teams groove that we used to have under Snyder I think it can win us an extra game this year.  And that could be bowl eligibility.  That could be the North.

catsfan, how many of those Reyer punts were line drives that resulted in big returns? he had some crapters.

how many times did the punt/kick returner fumble it? Both Yo and Juice gave it away a couple times, i think.

Antwon Moore is also an outstanding returner, and Leon Patton is looking good, from what I hear.  We'll be just fine on ST.
