You guys do know that HD DVD is dead, right? As of a couple of months ago there'll be no new HD DVDs.

I went with both. One of the few good financial decisions I've ever made.

Yes I know. That also contributes to me believing that Blu-Ray is better than the HD DVDs. One of the 360's features was it could play HD DVD's, which is better than the Wii which plays no DVD.

psn bogs down a lot... but it's also free.

Jeez, Richie Rich.

It's all about HOW you spend your money. You've got to prioritize. Maybe go Ghandi and survive on nothing but your own urine for a month or two to free up some benjamins.

Yeah it's pretty bad. But, you get what you pay for.

I bought a PS3 when my 360 went ring of death on me right after I bought NCAA 08 (which is pretty much the only reason I own a console).
My 360 constantly thinks that the discs are "unreadable" (even when they're brand new). I've never had any problems with the PS3 (but I rarely play online).
I haven't bought a Wii because (as near as I can tell) they're for overweight Asian prepubescents.
-
Did you send your 360 in for repair, Felix?
Either way, BluRay is the only reason the PS3 would be better. 360 has too big of an advantage in every other category.
-
I'll sell you mine. Maybe. 360.

Disagree. PS3 has Metal Gear as the only worthy exclusive franchise. If you think the compression is the only thing keeping the console back, they must be doing good. 360 dominates in library, future game releases, exclusive content, online play, online market, etc. Call me when you don't have to install games on your CONSOLE and I'll think about it. I'd take unnoticeable compression over 30 minute installs .

It takes me like 5 minutes to intsall a game. Metal Gear isn't our only exclusive. We are getting God of War 3 and thats gonna be badass. In the long term PS3 will be way beter than the 360.....IMO

My bad. Two franchises. 360 has Halo, Fable, Too Human, Gears of War, GTA 4 has exclusive content, even Final Fantasy XIII is exclusive. So I'm failing to see why a glorified movie player will be better in the long term. I own both, but the PS3 is worthless, besides it's blu ray. Online play is awful.
-
i've been waiting on sony to reduce their prices, all in all, the ps3 is the best blue ray player on the market for the money. anyone know if there are any pending price reductions on it?
those defending the console as a better option for gaming than an xbox 360 are just dumb. :users:

Sony's games division turned a profit for the first time in ages this quarter but the company is pretty much a train wreck. I doubt they'll subsidize the PS3 any more than they already do, it's already outselling the 360 and will only gain momentum going forward.
-
ya prob right :'(
i just want a good & cheap BR player

It outsold the 360 for the first time in June. This is due to finally having the only game worth buying released. Hardly a turn around. Especially with the huge lineup coming for the 360.

clams... you can get a br player for your computer for $130. Do you have a computer you can use for a media player?

not at the moment, my boot.ini got corrupted a couple weeks back and with that went my home pc, which was outdated when i built in in 2002. i've ordered some parts off of newegg but haven't decided if i want to finish building a new one or not.
i dunno, prob will build it out this winter.

yes, the PS3 really doesn't have any good games.
FF13 isn't a 360 exlusive and since sony owns 19% of square inex they make money off of every copy of FF13 sold on the 360 anyway.

I faced the same delima (sp?) earlier this year, and went with the PS3 because
1. It's like practically getting a free blu-ray player
2. Figured the only games i would play on it would be ncaa 09 and madden
3. Had a ps2, and wouldn't have to re-learn buttons and what not
4. Graphics a just a little better.....imo
5. Free PS Network

That's the only reason I own one. Also nice for streaming MP3s to your stereo system or playing them off an external HDD.
It's a fantastic BR player, easily the best on the market mostly because of the computing power under the hood. The standalones are pretty anemic by comparison, it takes a few seconds for a BR movie to load on a PS3 but it can take several minutes for some movies to load on some standalones. On the flip side it's quite noisy if you get one that kicks the fan into high gear, it might be annoying depending on the volume level at which you typically watch movies. It'll be a while before there's anything as good out there though, particularly at that price point.

LOL. What an awesome list of "okay" games there. Resistance? Really? That was awful. Now, I said exclusives. 360 has Ninja gaiden. XBLA has Castlevania SOTN. GOW3 and MGS4 are the only really good games worth mentioning.
And yes, FFXIII is a 360 exclusive. the PS3 Japan will get it, but the 360 gets it in Europe and the US. If you think Sony owning a small portion of the company makes it any better, let me know when you see some of that profit. LOL, Motorstorm!
Azcat- just an fyi, the 360 is able to stream the music and movies as well with externals. Both the PS3 and the 360 can also stream from your pc's. Not recommended for HD movies as it get's pretty choppy on both from the network lag.

FF XIII is NOT a Xbox360 Exclusive. Japan is getting it first. THEN Square is porting it over to the Xbox 360 for N.A and Europe release along side the PS3 Version.

ok, so i read here (http://www.tomsguide.com/us/microsoft-Xbox-360-price-cut,news-2221.html) that the $399 ps3's HDD is going from 40gb to 80gb. that's something at least.

In spite of previous reports that BioShock looks "no different" on PS3 than Xbox 360, IGN is claiming otherwise. They note that the water effects look better, and the texture work has been cleaned up. "It's quite obvious that 2K is taking full advantage of the PS3's Blu-ray discs to pack in cleaner high resolution textures for every facet of the game."
The new Survivor difficulty mode is wildly praised by the site; they go into much detail about how "every bullet counts" in this PS3-exclusive mode. From the sounds of it, it will be a nightmarish journey for those that want to pick up the game's Platinum Trophy.

In the end, the graphics are very comparable and not even a factor for me. It's all about which games are available (MGS4 is a great game, but people always go back to quality multiplayer games like Halo, GoW, COD, etc.), quality of online play (PSN sucks. It's laggy most of the time and NOBODY uses a head set- a must for team games and playing with friends. Anyone who has used all three system's online play should know which is far and away the best), and now the 360 brought integration of achievements and XBL into every game and the dashboard seamlessly is also important to me (the 2.40/1 update does/copies this, but Sony made a HUGE mistake not making this mandatory for all games to have "trophies." Also, the XMB is awful compared to the 360).
-
PS3 has plenty of quality games. I guess it just depends on if you like online play. I think Halo and GoW suck, and CoD sucks on consoles imo so online play isn't terribly important to me at this point.
-

in terms of reliability, yes. but for little details, it does not.

That's the thing, right now the differences are just starting, but near end of life for both systems you will really see the difference. And yes the 360 has terrible reliability but getting better, especially with the new jasper chipset, much less heat output.

IMO, the PS3 has one quality exclusive game. The 360 has a couple handfuls. And it's not just online play. GoW, Mass Effect, Fable, Too Human, all depend on single player (with coop as an option) to make a great game. Look at XBLA. A game called Braid just came out and Gamespot gave it a 9.5. A really good score for just an arcade game.

Oh, come on. I'd rather play those games on PC than 360, just for the keyboard/mouse factor for FPS. I wouldn't consider a game I can play elsewhere "exclusive", JMO.
In any event, I tend to play more non-exclusive games. I have no interest in Halo (it sucks IMO) and those other games, but games like Soul Calibur 4, GTA4, NCAA/Madden, etc, so I don't see how the library is such a huge advantage. It's not.

the pc is in no way a competitor to a console. you're alone, there's like 40 of you people left and you're all WoW'd out worse than Cartman ever was. game developers really don't care about the few remaining relics that cling to their keyboards and mice like pookey did to his crack.

:users:
Disagree completely. PC has survived the test of time (through ALL consoles) and there are many genres that will not translate successfully over to a console., like RTS and MMORPG (huge, huge market). FPS will always have a hardcore following because FPS are totally gimped on consoles.
-
PC games are getting fewer and fewer. This is due mainly to profitability. Just look at what Crysis went through. The biggest game the PC had of the year hardly sold anything due to piracy and lack of audience.
Also, it may not be an advantage to you, but for everyone else in the world, what games you're able to play tend to become important. If one system took away nearly all of the other's exclusive games, it took away a huge advantage.
PS. 360 has exclusive GTA4 DLC on the way. I'll let you know how it is.
-
a hardcore following doesn't mean a big following. and whatever you think you have, consoles have more. and more = users, and users = money, and that's where the games will follow. once technology caught up with the games being developed and you no longer needed a supercomputer to pull FPS/dynamic lighting, etc, was the day the pc gaming market died.
the one game i do think looks incredi that's coming out for pc is Rage-

Hardware matters, man. It just does, been proven time and time again.
in terms of reliability, yes. but for little details, it does not.
apparently, the 360 has terrible reliability.
QFT but if you buy the 360 right out of the box you should be fine.
RRoD is over exaggerated IMO.

The last number I saw was ~33% would eventually fail. Is MS still offering an infinte warranty?

Officially, it's a 3 year warranty, but they're still accepting RRoD failures for free that are over that. So..... yes.

Nothing to do with games, but thought this was interesting:
These guys: The Criterion Collection (http://www.criterion.com/asp/)
Outfitted their own home theater/screening room with a PS3 for the BR player.
Pretty good endorsement.

If you're not going for a PC solution, a PS3 is really the only logical solution. I'm really surprised they didn't go with a PC, though. Much better quality out of that.

Note that the arcade still comes with a memory card. Also, since 20 GB HDD's are being faded out, you can get them CHEAP.

Thinking of picking up a 360 this holiday season. I've seen deals out there to get an Elite + a couple games for $329.99

buy one off of craigslist- just be make sure the seal hasn't been broken. i bought mine with 2 wireless controllers and a 20gb HDD for $200.
microsoft put the 3 yr warranty on all of them so if it goes rrod (and seal is intact) you're covered.

GMAFB, RRoD guaranteed. I'd rather pay the extra $$$ to get a new one. Plus I would have to get a wireless adapter (or a bridge) anyways.

you don't need a wireless adapter, just use a ethernet cable. and what's the wireless adapter have to do with saving money on the console purchase? retart.

Just put your xbox by a fan and don't play for a while without taking a break. RRoD is caused by overheating.
