Can't AFH hold the whole towns of Marysville or Smith Center or wherever they come from?
-
It would be discrimination to move them there. Otherwise Krause would have done it day 1.

UNC doesn't let their women's team play in the Smith Center. It's obviously not an NCAA policy that the men and women have to play on the same court. It's just more feasible, I imagine.
-
How would it be discrimination? Giving Deb and the gals a historic venue to call their own*?
*How you would present it to them.

They would have to buy a new floor and seats to surround it in order for the women to play in Ahearn. It would be very expensive.

With less capacity and no AC. Good sell.

less capacity

Why you have to like the guy.

Putting basketball back in Ahearn would be a logistical nightmare and maybe even an impossibility. They can barely even hold volleyball postseason events there due to not meeting certain requirements, not to mention the fire code issues that would be associated with something like this.
-
The "let's move everything back to Ahearn" crowd is just ridiculously naive about this issue.
Fire code updates.
Air conditioners.
Better scoreboards.
New bleachers ALL THE WAY AROUND.
Better bathroom setups, i.e. more than two urinals per 11,000 people.
New place to put the press, i.e. not in the rafters.
Electronics updates.
Do your research of old articles in the university archives (Hale 503) and you will find that this place was a dump by 1985 standards -- there's a reason so many thousands of students were campainging for a new place -- and it hasn't been updated since. And by the way, if you are part of the "let's move everything back to Ahearn" crowd, you lose your right to insist that we spend money on the new basketball facility, updates to Bramlage, etc. It is inconsistent to claim on one hand that we have to have the glitziest facilities possible to lure good recruits, then turn around and yearn for the nostalgia of a preposterously out of date building. Pick one or the other.
Don't get me wrong: I LOVE Ahearn, and would probably go to great lengths (see: blumpkin) to have kept updates consistent throughout. There's nobody more willing to sacrifice sports viewing comfort for historical venues than SkinnyBenny. But the fact is that we didn't do that, and it's too late to turn back now.

I think you missed the point.
I'd also be fine with WBB being moved to the rec, to Topeka, or eliminated altogether. Just get their tiny 3-point line off our Elite court.

Right, I got it, but it still had to be said. Seems like every single year there's some yay-hoo who wants to run for Student Body President on the basis of moving b-ball back to Ahearn.

Gosh, it seems like just yesterday that some yay-hoo named DJ Weremy Barker ran for Student Body president but was soon disqualified for an alleged act of sidewalk graffiti in hopes to sabotage another student's campaign. Wonder what happened to that guy...
On a side note... if I ever run for Student Body president it will be on the platform of digging a moat to surround (protect) Nichols Hall.

I consulted with DJ Weremy Barker about this very issue and he claims that it is all balderdash and never happened. He won the election and was instituted as a puppet regime to whoever it was that won that year.

if i cure cancer, i would demolish ahearn and build a new on campus arena.

Mods, please move this thread to "The Good, The Bad, and the "Meh" where it belongs. We could use some good WBB disussion over there. :users:

Oh, I forgot to add:
PARKING. Yeah, people TOTALLY wouldn't bitch about that in 2008.

Ah, but the most beautiful parking garage in the world would be sitting just right next door.
