Seriously, it's not even been a week and the Phlock has already begun preparing for poor Ronnie's execution. And to think all that military experience we've been told so much about is just going to be flushed down the drain... (http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=172&f=2481&t=2634857)
So what's the deal with Mario's dad? Still with the team? Gonzo? Sorry if this has been discussed already.
If Ronnie were to leave that would be sad to see. He has been here for 3 years but a much needed three years for him and Mario. But if he were to leave that would leave open a spot for some Guy with the last name Henry. haha I think he used to play for ku or something had a son commit to ku years ago but I think he has a younger son that plays maybe he could come to ku...hmmmm
He was quoted in King's book about really wanting to get back to coaching. I assume he is keeping his eyes open for something.
Doesn't Carl Henry need some work?
I have heard he will most likely be leaving. The word is that Brett Ballard will be Dir. of Basketball Ops and Jeremy Case will take Ballards old position or he will be a GA. I also heard that this is will be a positive change in the eyes of the coaching staff....
Maybe Ronnie can start his own representation firm and give more underclassmen bad draft advice.
he needs to leave so we can hire the next good recruit's father
word on the street (a very reliable word) is that ronnie chalmers is a complete idiot... hopefully he is gonzo
Perhaps having a competent Director of Basketball Operations will allow our player to file responsive pleadings in a timely fashion, appear when their traffic tickets are called in municipal court, or otherwise handle the ever increasing "no big deal" legal issues our players have been involved in the past few years that our coaching staff seemed to have no idea about.
:runaway:

But, but, but they had a "need", Ronnie wanted to be closer to his son!! There was no quid pro quo, Ronnie was OVER qualified for the job.
Number of years of working for ku after their sons left:
Ed Manning-ZERO
Ronnie Chalmers-Likely ZERO

My dad coached my 'designated pitch' baseball team.
But only during the years I played on that team.

Tears, that was just a charity thing, nobody else would coach you.

BT you're a ku guy, where do you fall on the Ronnie Chalmers issue?

In the end, Ronnie will learn that Bill treats all the "help" the same. Once they aren't needed, they are gone.

I'm not very good with 'issues.' I kinda just laugh at sh1t. I guess its kinda weird, but since there aren't any nepotism-ish rules written in the books, its ok by me. I kinda wish we wouldn't have hired a players old man, but what the hell...its only bball. Its for fun. Not sadness.

You left off Lafeyette Norwood, although not officially a dad, he delivered that fag Valantine

Tears should they just start basketball breeding farms?? You know, like the German SS had during WWII.

Why? If it's only bball, then why wish they wouldn't have hired Ronnie (or Ed for that matter)? Always funny to me, ku fans play the "well, I wish we wouldn't have done that" or the "I'm not a fan of that" but still applaud the product/end result as if it were pure/untainted. For f*ck sake, just say "I don't give a f*ck what my school does as long as we win" and be done with it. It's insulting otherwise.

And this is different than most other organizations/corporations/business in today's age how?
College basketball is a business, pure and simple.

We won. Yay!!!!
What they did with the Mannings and Chalmers? I don't care.
Would I care if they hired an ex-murderer? Maybe, hard to tell how far down we go on the slippery slope.

I would rather my school not do things that cause me to raise an eyebrow. I would rather they just stayed flat. Maybe you should just go out and hire another AAU coach. That wouldn't bother me in the least.

ku has been doing that for 50+ years now. Again, always funny the blind/naive eye ku fans have towards their basketball program. They'll say they are "concerned" or "aren't sure" or "would rather they didn't do that" about some of the activities, but in the end all they care about is winning (which is fine, btw) but then act like that winning was derived from something pure and innocent. Just admit it that you don't really care what they do as long as they win.
BTW, 'Te was a D1 college basketball assistant coach before being hired by Huggins, something neither Ronnie or Ed could say.
-
Dax, we all know that KStaters, and especially yourself, would enjoy nothing more than the employment of a fatherly (type?) figure to be employed with connections to a young man with extraordinary talents.... wait a second... :blahblah:

Nothing is pure anymore. Its terrible. Coaches getting DUIs and not getting fired. A crying shame. No more white weddings. No more precious snowflakes. My tap water tastes funny sometimes. ku is a big ol meanie and its all their fault. Better?

Not really. Still kind of sounds like you don't mean it. Meanie.

I would agree ku has been doing it for awhile, I just think most (if not all) major college programs do it. Seriously, you are making fun of the naive ku fans, but don't see why one of your own assistants was hired? I'm not bagging Kstate for hiring him, again it's a business.
I think the difference between ku and a lot of schools is that they are good enough at it to win and win big. But paradoxically are sometimes bad enough at it to get caught more than others.

No. I have no illussions as to why KSU was successful. It hired a D1 asst. coach to get a player. That D1 asst. coach has turned out to have more than just the ability to get that one player. What I don't do is pretend otherwise. I don't say "I wish we wouldn't have hired 'Te" but still applaud the program this past season. I hope KSU hires more asst. coaches that bring in more players. I don't really care what they do, as long as don't get caught doing it (or the penalties aren't severe) and they win. But I don't pretend otherwise.

Man, good thing we didn't hire him as a coach, we may not have won the NC.
Face it, ku hired Ronnie to get Mario.
K-state hired Hill to get Beas and his DC Assualt ties.

Fair enough.
And I admit the real reasons why Ronnie and Ed Manning were hired.

It doesn't mean he wasn't a good dad, though. I mean, looking back, I really appreciate my dad for coaching my baseball team. All the other kids liked him too. He's really a pretty cool guy. Maybe Ronnie just really loves his son. Did you ever think of that, Dr. Feelgood? hmmm?

Well thanks Captain Obvious.
But lets cut to the core. Take away Mario, and take away Beas, who had more marketable skills and experience for the D1 coaching marketplace.
The guy who was a sitting assistant coach at a D1 school with 7 years of D1 playing/coaching experience. Or the guy who the high school coach in Alaska??

Or
Te . . . who was over served.

Some obvious truth in that, but if you don't see the difference between paying a dad and paying an assistant coach who happens to have connections to a player, you really haven't thought this through very thoroughly.

Although I don't have a basketball background, other than as a lifelong fan, I am confident that my experience as an Army commander and engineer has equipped me to bring leadership and innovation to the NBA's exceptional officiating program.

Enough coaching experience for me!!!

ku hired Ronnie Chalmers to get Mario. Ronnie understood the game plan as well as everyone else. According to the reports, it is Ronnie that has decided to leave. However, I understand that this might just be a cover and it is really ku's decision to find another assistant. Again, both sides knew what it was going to take to get Mario to play at Kansas. I'm sure that Ronnie didn't have any assurances that he would be an assistant at ku after Mario left. If he did and it wasn't his decision to leave, I'm sure he can file a suit. To make all of you K-Staters happy, I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM WITH THIS AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T COME TO BITE US IN THE AS*. I think the problem many of you K-State fans are having is that it didn't bite us in the as* this time. I read the comment from a K-State fan criticizing Ronnie's experience compared to the coaches at K-State. I would think you would be happy that we are hiring, what you might consider, in a reckless fashion. WE DID IT, WE WON IT ALL, LIVE WITH IT

I do have to hand it to ku, hiring parents really is an interesting way to circumvent the NCAA system.
Most universities wouldn't assume the risk of fabricating a proxy "position" that allows an athletic program to channel money to an immediate family as payment for a student athlete's services. Fewer would be so blatantly transparent about it either with the immediate dismissal once the player in question leaves the program.
Truly elite in many respects.
-
seriously though, if Self needs to hire Henry's dad (he'll forever be known as that LOL, what a joke) to secure a commitment from Henry with all the ties he already has to ku...it really says a lot about how bad of a recruiter Self really is.
