Are you tired during the day? Maybe your body only needs 5 hours of sleep.

Do you lay around in bed and watch TV before going to sleep?  Things like that can fool your body into thinking that the bed isn't for sleep and can make it difficult to get to sleep.

Nope... it's the truth.  It happens to me all the time in motels.  If I watch TV while I'm in bed, I can't fall asleep, but if I turn off the TV before getting into bed, my body relaxes a lot better.

Another thing that may contribute is if you use the computer or watch TV immediately before hopping into bed.  These activities can overstimulate the brain and not allow you to relax right away.  It's always good to do something calming or low-stimulus before going to bed.

As an aside, a male's body produces a sleepy chemical during sex, so doing that right before you roll over and go to sleep works well too.

I say you do all of the above with a nice turkey sandwich and wash it down with some nyquil

obviously nyquil, but you shouldn't use it unless ksu loses or something. if you use it too much, like any other drug you become addicted and it stops working.

I remember the TV thing from a psych class.

Also if you are in bed for 30 minutes  and can't fall asleep you should get up, do some dishes or something and try again.

no food, sugar caffine(?) within an hour of sleeping.

That seems counterproductive to me.

When I had problems sleeping someone told me about this stuff called Melatonin. You can get it at wal-mart and it has worked wonders for me. Melatonin is automatically released by your body and tells your body to enter sleep, so this allows you better control when it is used. It helps you enter deep sleep too, which sometimes makes for some crazy dreams.
