Magazine ranks Mizzou as a top university

Washington University and the University of Missouri-Columbia made the top 100 of a new “best universities” ranking released to rival the better-known U.S. News and World Report list.

Elite schools such as Harvard, Princeton and Washington University in St. Louis that traditionally get high marks from U.S. News — which measures selectivity, student grades, test scores, class sizes and graduation rates — did not fare as well in the new listing published by Washington Monthly magazine.

Washington University ranked 11th on the U.S. News list, but 45th on the rival list. MU ranked 85th on both lists.

Editors at Washington Monthly based their rankings on how a university benefits the country. They looked at community service, spending on research, and the institution’s contribution to social mobility by enrolling and graduating low-income students.

Other Missouri and Kansas schools and their ranks on the new list: University of Missouri-Rolla, 111; Kansas State University, 113; University of Kansas, 138; St. Louis University, 192; University of Missouri-Kansas City, 224; Wichita State University, 233; and University of Missouri-St. Louis, 238.

Ranked separately among 202 liberal arts colleges were Stephens College, 84; William Jewell College, 186; and Westminster, 195.

I think the 113 is from the Washington Monthly, not US News.

Anyways, I could care less about these rankings but it will be fun to see the elitist ku fan go ballistic.

The Princeton Review also ranks KSU higher than ku

US News is funny because you gets point for selectivity and points for retention.  That just doesn't work for rating schools like KSU that take everyone and weed out as many people as possible.

Agreed, this is little more than ammo for stupid phog.net arguments.
