Jay Posner, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers RB Darren Sproles (ankle) has a high ankle sprain. Head coach Marty Schottenheimer said Sproles suffered a high ankle sprain but said it "would be premature" to say how serious the injury might be or how long Sproles might be sidelined. If Sproles were to be out for any length of time, WR Eric Parker likely would replace him on punt returns.

Ahhh the absolute uselessness of preseason NFL football.  Fun for the fans and money for the owners but nothing but a liability for the players that are actually going to play during the season.

Second-year veteran Darren Sproles will miss the season, after the Chargers' return specialist was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. He underwent Monday surgery to repair a fractured left fibula.
