Title: Musings on K-State football from two guys at work
Post by: TheWabasher on June 23, 2008, 10:40:16 AM
Guy 1: So how do you think Freeman is gonna do this year?
Guy 2 (rolls eyes): Pssh.  You think he'll start the whole year?
Guy 1: I dunno, man.
Guy 2: After the way he played last year, I'm not sure he will.
Guy 1: I tell ya, I went to the first half of the -
Guy 2 (knowingly) spring game?
Guy 1: - yeah.  And I gotta say...that Carson Coffman...he looked like, like he had a plan.
Guy 2: Hell, I think we might have two quarterbacks that are better than Freeman.
Guy 1: That Harper kid?
Guy 2: Yeah, man.
Guy 1: Well, we'll see anyway.
Guy 2: Yeah, I mean everyone of these preseason magazines has Freeman as the starter.  I'm not sure if I see it.

I didn't make any of this up.  I swear to God.

The sad thing is...this represents the majority of our fan base.

I think the proper way to look at it is how many more games would be lost if Freeman wasn't the QB.

Funny, coffman's best game was spring of 2007.  He completed about 40% of his passes against our 2nd D. You know, the guys who finished the season last year! :D

i wouldn't mind him going in there for a snap or two during the season to mix it up a little instead of having our RB's do that crapty wildcat formation.

I'm not arguing that he doesn't win games but him being our all-time leading passer doesnt get us a 13-0 record either. I blame most of Freemans failures on the OL and Defense however he improved +4 on the ints last year and was sacked 8 less times. But ku intercepted three of his passes last year and I believe that if he wants to be a legend he needs to beat ku.

I got a forecast for you two years from now carson coffman is our starting qb did you forget his dad was a stud for us back in the day and his brother isn't doing to bad himself right now. I'm not saying hes the next Ell or for that matter the next Allen Webb, but damnt hes holding on too that 2nd string qb position spite hartman and kassavoids and smiths efforts to remove him of that title and those were the qbs snyder loved the scrappy ones not the prince of qbs like freeman. To diss one of your fellow fans not to mention a player on the team you root for is low hes a backup... just to make things worse. As for predicting the future, I predict that if Freeman goes down that this team is screwed.  I think that Freeman is the best player on the team by a wide margin.  The fact that you cannot see the difference between Freeman's talent level and Coffman's speaks volumes about your FBIQ.

FYP.  Now that it's legible, let's take a look.  I think Freeman is the best player on the team and that includes both Coffman and Campbell.  I mean what I wrote--I think the team is screwed if Freeman goes down.  I don't necessarily think that will be the case if we lose Campbell.

I remain a little confused about the criteria you use to judge the ability of players.  You say Coffman looked pretty good, later admit Freeman is talented, try and shift the conversation away from Freeman v. Coffman debate by bringing in Campbell, and then state that Coffman is smarter.  How do you know he is smarter?  Do you think Ian Campbell is better than Freeman because he's smarter?

I'm sorry that you were offended by me saying you had LFBIQ.  Maybe it's a case that you are just really bad at writing what you truly mean.

nah im pretty bad at everything its all good i didnt mean to say coffman is a better quarterback but it seems to me that the reads come more comfortable to him then freeman. Freeman has a tendency to fall back on one guy this year Jordy the year before that I honesty felt like he stared down mastrud a lot. While I look at Coffman and he seems to always go through his reads and find what he thinks is the best option to throw to but as seen in the last two spring games and even the warm up games when he gets in late he throws the ball to another colored jersey. And in terms of "best player" I think you'd have to define that for me because I think Freeman is probably the most valuable but I think Campbell is the best player we have does that make sense?

I was just thinking that the other day that if Freeman got hurt we would be screwed. I have also been wondering/just saying if Freeman had an incredible junior year and left early for the NFL would coffman really be are starter in 09-10?I mean I have no doubt in Coffmans abilities it just would be interesting.
