Title: Moving to Omaha
Post by: doom on June 03, 2008, 11:13:02 AM
By the end of summer.  Any advice?  I've already bought a Creighton hoodie so I can appear local and not wear that red crap.  I need a job.  That will suck.  Need a house.  That will suck too.  Steve Dave, do you live up there?

Yeah, what part of town do you have to be in?  Also, you will hate Creighton as much as NU after a short while.  As far as jobs, doo you have a degree and if so what in?  What field do you want to go into?  If too private PM me as I'm pretty much an expert in any questions you may have.

You want to live in the Old Market area because: a) there's nothing else even remotely interesting in Omaha; and b) when you can't find work you can at least lay in the gutter and beg as the bar patrons in this neighborhood are the only locals likely to ever cough up any dough for the less fortunate.

My wife has a job as a vet, I'm a teacher.  We'll try for the west end of town or a burb like Papillion or Gretna.  Really, Az, the Old Market area is surrounded by crap areas.  The best end of town is the west.  What's wrong w/ Creighton?  I like them as my emotionally neutral local team.

I live pretty far SW at about 168th and Harrison (basically Gretna).  My sister in law is an elementary teacher in about the same area and the districts are really good according to her.  Creighton fans are the NU fans during basketball season so it's the same d-bags.

Creighton or KSU   Assuming you mean Creighton I've been to a few.  Very wine and cheese crowd that is there to be seen and don't really understand hoops.  Their atmosphere sucks because they give the students this really small section back pretty far from underneath the basket and then a section way up in the rafters.  You will see more Eric Crouch jerseys there than Creighton jerseys.

creighton always reminded me of an inbred team.  always have had very ugly players/coaches, imo- the kind of ugly that's the result of too much inbreeding, not just regular ugly.

Everyone calls it CouncilTucky because it's extremely crytal-methi-ish.  They have the casino and dirtbag market pretty much cornered.

And let's not forget the important stuff: strip joints.  The T&A is pretty much east of the state line. :billypopcorn:

This should absolutely be it's own thread.  As long as it's multiple choice I am golden.  We are living around 102nd and Maple in an apartment that would do 3 month leases until we can sell the ole' house in Manhattown.  I have an interview tomorrow, then we are going back for a week or so, and then we'll be up here for good.

Wait, you have an interview tomorrow?  So you were unemployed and could have justified moving anywhere in the world you wanted to go but you chose ... Omaha?

Stupid storm killed my freezer.

Where did you guys end up living for now?  We got almost nothing at our house.  I was sitting there.  Enjoying what I thought was a perfectly nice weather day when the sirens started to go off and I was all WTF!?  Turned on the news and all hell was breaking loose (the local news people blow a freakin' gasket with anything to do with the weather....kinda like GPC).  It got a little windy our way but that was it.

We just drove up the rest of our stuff.  We've been in Manhattan.  We're on Maple and 102, something like that in a 3 month lease apartment .  But we'd already brought up the contents of our freezer and the power was out for 4 days.  We lost a lot of deer meat and hamburgers.  Took awhile to clean out.
