Title: Favorite Hamburger/Places. . .
Post by: cas on May 29, 2008, 06:43:41 PM
As far as national chain fast food:

1. BK/Triple Whopper
2. Wendy's/Triple Cheeseburger
3. McDonalds/ Big Mac

Favorite regional chain:
1. Backyard Burger: BBQ Double Cheese with Bacon with some seasoned fries. Can't beat it.

Overall, really not bad from top to bottom but the Big Mac is definitely at the bottom and the Whopper is at the top. I eat fast food a fair share of the time, so I was interested to hear your opinions.

hardees looks so good in the commercials, but then you eat there and immediately regret it.

Would probably agree on the Whopper, with maybe a Sonic burger (its been a while) and the Big Mac (or any burger w/ sauce)

Local Place:
1. Cook's American Grill (west of 21st and gage in Topeka)  :lick: anything there, but dbl baco cheesburger  ( the cheesy paper)

(non-local fast food has to be In-n-Out --- Double Double   )

Best deal:  McD Double Cheese for $1
Best FF Burger:  Wendy's Double w/cheese
Best kinda casual type place burger:  Chili's Chipotle Blue Cheese  :lick:  (plus unlimited chips/salsa  :excited:)

favorite burgers that no longer exist:

Calico Inn:  A great place in Riley.  They also had great ribs.

Kreem cup:  Went out of business around 2001.  This was a greasy spoon type place.  I think theres a Kreem kup in Wamego, but I don't know if it's the same place or not.

Hibachi Hut:  The Belly Bomb still exists, but it doesn't match up to past glory.  I liked mine with jalapenos, but the place changed management some years ago and isn't quite as good anymore.

The Santa Fe Burger from Red Robin is mighty tasty.

Curly's in Stillwater, OK is delicious.

The double meat hamburger form Lot-A-Burger is pretty good (Tulsa, OK area).

The ultimate might be the "Hot Hamburger" at Murphy's Steakhouse in Bartlesville, OK. Take one piece of toasted white bread place a juicy hamburger on top, cover with awesome fries and brown gravy and you've got a hot hamburger. :lick:

In 'N Out Burger - 3x3 Animal Style
The Hat (SoCal) - Chiliburger w/wet fries

If I have to pick a substandard burger that's available in Kansas I'd have to go with the Royal Red Robin.  Not bad but not up to SoCal burger standards.

Would have to go with Dairy Queen for fast food - although they're slow as hell here in Manhattan.

Don's Drive In in Oakley is by far the best I've had in Kansas.

Five Guys (all over the D.C. metro area) is tops in my book though.

QFT.  The resist temptation is probably my favorite thing to eat ever.  Good salsa too.  Plus you get to stair at Fitz's ass crack sneaking out of his pants by about 4 inches up at the bar which is a big plus in my opinion.

Pffft.  They wouldn't know a burger from a hole in the ground out there.  Burgers are a SoCal thing, cheesesteaks are an east coast thing.

It isn't nearly as good as Sonic.  Well at least not as good as the few Sonics left that still have the original Hickory Burger on the menu.

FYP?

That's not to say that I don't love In-n-Out, but to claim burgers as a SoCal thing?
In-N-Out just happen to be in SoCal.

it was pretty money when I lived in DC and the store was actually owned by the "five guys". Now that they have franchised out I hope it's still as good. The fries cooked in peanut oil are amazing.

Ty's is excellent. So is the Oasis Lounge in Wichita.

Cozy Inn in Salina.

But for fast food, I'd have to go with the Whopper...WITH cheese.

5 Guys just opened in Olathe.  Deliciously sloppy.   :lick:

Can't go wrong with Winsteads.   :lick:

Whataburger is outstanding.  One weekend in Texas, I had it for Thursday lunch, Friday lunch, Friday late night, Saturday lunch, and Sunday lunch.  Can't get it up here, so you gotta get it when you can.   :frown:   :lick:
