There has been a great deal of bitching about whether the 1 year rule was good for players, college ball, and/or the NBA.
College basketball needs to really think hard about whether they should give a crap about the NBA draft. Since most of the players are going pro in something other than [basketball], they need to focus on providing opportunities to those who want to be in college.
Here's how you do it.
- If you don't hire an agent, and never receive improper benefits, then you can come back to college and use any remaining eligibility.
That's it. That's the rule.
Who cares if a guy enters the draft? Why does that have crap to do with college? It only does because the NCAA cozied up to the NBA. Anyone who enters the draft should be able to come back if they decide it isn't worth it to them to go pro. The NBA will hate this. It would be a nightmare for them because it solidifies the role of the agent. I mean, what NBA team would dare risk a first round spot on a guy hasn't hired an agent?

My idea is that the NCAA bring the baseball rule to basketball. If you want to go to the NBA out of high school, then go, but if the kid takes a step on campus, he's there for at least 3 years. This would take care of the apr scholly losses and players going to college because they have to not because they want to.

I like the idea of being able to force players to wait three years, but that can't work unless you conspire with the professionals.

I know you can get a Phd at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln without stepping foot in a classroom. Don't know about KSU.
