Looking for a nice place for an anniversary dinner this weekend - something nice, but not formal required. Got any suggestions?

I actually could use some tips too as I have an important date in KC.  I am looking for between 20-30 a plate, some place that we can dress nice and not be out of place, i.e. nice suit/dress.

if youre looking for a little apple brewery type atmosphere with just as good of steaks then give jess and jims a shot.  its a little bit more expensive but they have fantastic food in a setting where dressing up is not required. unfortunately there is not a brewery attached to it...

garozzos is good but paulo and bills is much better for the same price, imo.

Diamond Joe's on Chouteau Trafficway is a wonderful spot to take a casual date.  Not overly formal and they serve a mean steak.

How much do you want to spend?

The Majestic on Broadway is a good spot.

Plaza III or Capitol Grille on the Plaza.

'clams is the high roller of the board.  He could give you the best recc's.

Looking for a nice place for an anniversary dinner this weekend - something nice, but not formal required. Got any suggestions?

capital grill (http://www.thecapitalgrille.com/Locations/KansasCity/Main.asp?Location=KansasCity), hands down the best overall meal in town, you won't be disappointed.  it's at the upper end of your range, but it's the place to go.  plates range from $25-$40, and don't include salad or sides.  their sides and salads are huge though and you can share them, that's what i always do.  the delmonico ribeye is mongoloidianly good.  not odd at all to run into tony gonzalez, carl peterson, george brett, etc in there at the bar.  located right outside of my front door on the historic, and always beautiful, west end of the country club plaza. ~$150 for two w/ booze and tip.

something a little cheaper and one of my personal favorites, with plates ranging from $15-$35 (including sides, but not salads), is M&S Grill (http://www.kcrestaurantguide.com/M&S%20Grill.htm).  it's mccormick and schmicks (the seafood place) steakhouse, located around the corner from pf changs, on the east plaza facing mill creek park.  good steaks, good seafood, decent service.  the kona crusted lamb chops, the pot roast, and the bbq shrimp are some of my favorite things on the menu.  two can dine well for ~$120 including tip and lots of booze.  it's a cool dining room, i eat here most saturdays for dinner.
:barman:

if you're looking for something more upscale and intimate, try starker's restaurant (http://www.starkersreserve.com/), located above restoration hardware, across 47th st from pf changs. they're more foo-foo than the other places, more like the food you see on tv.  good food but a bit more pricey.

if you're in the mood for great seafood, i'd recommend the new bristol (http://www.bristolseafoodgrill.com/) down in the power and light district.  plates ranging from $20-$30 with sides, not including your salads.  call ahead because they're getting slammed right now since they just opened around the big 12 tourney time.  very cool place with perfectly cooked seafood.  i like.

'sty suggested the majestic (http://www.kansascitymenus.com/majesticsteakhouse/), it's another good steakhouse that is located downtown.  the majestic is pretty much an old school, upscale dining, steakhouse and they don't do much more than that.  live jazz 7 nights a week.  never been one of my favorites, but the steaks are good.  $30-$60 per plate.

in the mood to hable a little espagnol?  la bodega (http://www.kansascitymenus.com/labodega/) is an excellent spanish tapas restaurant located on sw blvd.  i love coming to la bodega this time of the year and sitting out on sw blvd eating tapas and drinking multiple pitchers of their 'gloidianly good sangria.  my fav tapas- Tortilla Espanola, Pimientos Rellenos de Piquillo, Gambas a la Plancha  , and Solomillo con Cabrales.  we usually get a couple of each.  i love this place.  you can get in and out of here with sangria, + tip, for ~$100.

have fun, there's a lot of great restaurants in kc.

One interesting place I would add is Pot Pie in Westport:  http://www.kcpotpie.com/

Don't get the pot pie.  Get something else that sounds interesting.  You can get out of there with wine, appetizers, and dessert for about $100-$120 w/ tip.

'cla', ever been to Bluestem?

Long John Silver's. $5-$8 a plate.  Definitely order a side of crunchies.  It'll cost you a little extra but it is well worth the added expense.  If you want a nice sit down dinner at a themed restaraunt, followed by explosive diarrhea, this is the place to be.

yeah bluestem is the gf's fav place but it's really not my style.  good thing that i got plenty  :drink: beforehand.

the food was good and the black trufle mac & cheese was  but i don't really like that foo-foo crap.  too weird for the 'lams.  :frown:

I like the crazy foo-foo stuff.  I went to SORedux before it shut down.  It was the best meal EVAR.

pick one and our combined prowess will help you out.

If you go to Peppercorn you are paying for the atmosphere, which is nice, the chocolate bar is one of the most overrated things I've ever experienced, and the food is not better than the places clams recommended.  And it's on the pricier end.

it's decent saul, good food.  there's just a lot more out there right now.

the bad part about that guide is that restaurants have to pay to be listed in it, so it's not unbiased and not everyone is listed.

All-you-can-eat free, with purchase of approx. $40 steak.

Don't know yet, depends on what the lil lady is craving.  Luckily I have a place now for about any situation.  The plan is to go to the power and light district after, so if anyone knows the best club/bar places there, feel free to offer more advice.

If you like Irish music go to Raglan Road.  Is pretty fun if you are into Irish Pub type of stuff.

lucky strike is my favorite P&L bar.  i don't go down there much though, it reminds me of a pile of crap.

they do often have great jazz in the drum room in the basement of the president hotel, next to the p&L.

This is a great place to go in the area, especially with a date.  The actual P&L bars are all too "clubby" for my taste.

I just saw that the mango room is closed.  Shame too, I would've dug the jazz but I don't think thats what my date is looking for.  One last question, Phillips Chophouse is close to where we're staying and it was brought up?  More insights?

decent food, nothing outstanding about it, pricey.  not much atmosphere though like you'd find at one of the busier places on the plaza.

i had one hell of a bar tab there one saturday afternoon.  i think they were charging like $11 a drink or something and we didn't know it before hand, can't remember.

that night, we didn't care.  It was kind of a unique night, anyway.  I've been since, and there are lots of lines, covers, etc. at P&L bars.
