Quantrill was a piece of crap.

The sacking of Lawrence was over blown, the real crime was how the leaders of Lawrence were willing to sell out the state to slavery-lovers in order to save their precious town.

Well it wasn't a state yet, but at that time the free-staters were centralized in lawrence in opposition to the slavers who set up camp in atchison.
