Title: Had to go to the mall in Overland Park Saturday morning...
Post by: The1BigWillie on March 30, 2008, 11:08:24 PM
... I wanted to call in a devastating airstrike as soon as I left.  I can't begin to describe how pathetic 90% of the people walking around in there were.  You name it, you'll see it in the mall.  I can't decide if I should be depressed with society or happy that I am so fortunate.  These people are allowed to vote, breed, drive, and collect welfare, disability, and social security.   There is a large section of America that simply needs to disappear.  How do we fix this?

If we stop subsidizing their existence they'll eventually go away.

Non-rich people deserve to die.

Or eat their own children to make it through the winter.  These difficult decisions will breed a new sort of philosophically superior human.  Just imagine if mankind had to struggle with that sort of monumental ethical question on a daily basis as opposed to having to wonder: a) what time Oprah comes and and b) if there are any more Twinkies in the cupboard.

poor and/or stupid people breed like rabbits.  what might help would be a war in which we lose more soldiers and less dollars.

It all starts when they are young (whether they are perpetuating their parents situation or just trying to be dumb and lazy). If you drop out of high school your driver's license gets taken away until you decide to educate yourself (go back to HS, go to a GED program). No DL = no subsidies. Also, put time limits on these things, limit the number of months people can be on these subsidies. On top of that you should be require to prove that you are seeking an education (college, community college, technical school, etc.).

Then the government could issue grants to local charities (churches, food banks, shelters, etc.) to help out w/ the people who do not wish to become educated in the least. This would cost the government less and the local charities would be much more efficient with the money issued via grants than the government would. I would also suggest huge tax breaks for private companies who donate large sums to charities.

What about people with hardships? Well, lets just give them help for very short time frames to get them through their hardships. If what the gov provides isn't enough for them they can look to local charities.

It's amazing what people can do for people. For example, lots of charities actually care about the people and attempt to do something to remedy the cause of their situation, while the gov just gives them a check so as to perpetuate the situation. It's the old "teach a man to fish" thing.

I've always seen this as a solution to Social Secuity.

It is like the answer is in the question, ya know?

Entirely too rational and while such a mechanism would make the system more efficient at redistributing wealth it wouldn't address the underlying problem: namely that a slice of the population is just lazy and will only be motivated to better themselves through discomfort.  So long as these living on the public dole are able to: keep a mostly non-leaky roof over their heads; heat their dwellings above the outside temperature most days during the winter; eat more meals than they miss; enjoy clean safe running water and indoor plumbing; watch the tube; maintain the ability to transport themsleves from one point to another; etc. we'll see no changes because the allegedly poor in America who live off the public have it far better than the overwhelming majority of the truly poor around the world.  Roll the largess from the public purse back to the point where most of the above amenities aren't available to those unwilling to care for themselves and, wonder of wonders, most will suddenly learn to do so.

I didn't phrase that first line quite right. I was meaning for the charities to help out those who can't necessarily become educated and productive in the work force, people who are actually disabled mentally or physically to the point they can't actually care for themselves.  In general the people of this country that need true compassion (i.e. not people who refuse to ignore multiple warnings of an impending hurricane that will flood their city).

So, yes the other people who absolutely refuse to make an effort need/deserve what you just stated. For some reason this country stopped believing in responsibility and accountability. In this case, with these people, their lesson is best learned the hard way. Sadly, some would never learn (but, as a nation we have yet to realize this and move on).

I buy clothes about 3 times a year.  I had a gift card from Express that I hadn't used. They are about the only place I can find 38/36 jeans that don't cost an arm and a leg so I buy them there.  I don't know if there is another Express for Men store in the area so I just went there.

Thankfully I don't have to return for several months.

Can't we just sprinkle anthrax in every welfare check we send out?

No, this would put our hard working Postal workers at risk. Lord knows we don't need to give them anything else to get upset about. Anthrax may take "going Postal," to a new level.
