Beasley gone..
Clent gone...

Beasley gone..
Clent gone...
They almost balance eachother out.

are you serious, your going to give clent crap tonight...this man has stuck with this program through it all...a four year starter, come on, this crap is just unreal, give me a &@#%ing break
-
Jesus stfu, what is he going to do transfer to New Mexico and play with the ku TC?
Of course he stuck with it, this was his best opportunity.
He just isn't that good of a player.
It is like me playing against a team of black guys at the rec(no racist)

LOL, I know. "Stick with us?" You have to be kidding. I mean, I know Bob Chipman could have used Clent coming off his bench, but come on....
Good kid....blah, blah, blah....we'll never look back.

QFT, where else could he get this much PT while really being a non-factor in the true sense of the word.

I love this...
Clent was a very good player for the program pre-2006.
Wow, how perceptions have changed.

Yeah, its a very good thing.

clent is a great person
just a sub-par bball player
had some heart though
-
Dude was a great recruit (by K-State standards 5 years ago) who could have gone to other programs. Even if he ,wasn't an all-conference player, he was the best option we had at his position (which wasn't even his natural position) for the last 4 years, as sad as that may be. Without Clent, the program isn't as good over that span.

pre 2006 we had never finished higher than 8th in Big XII play.
we finished third this year...and it was a dissappointment

I'm glad Clent is gone so we don't have to have any more of these threads. I wonder who the whipping boy will be next year?
BTW, I agree that Clent underachieved this year and put up very pedestrian numbers, though he was living up to what I expected in the first part of the Big 12 season. He was a role player who was asked to do more than what he was capable of pretty much his whole career while playing for 3 different coaches and 4 different offensive systems. No doubt the better player this year was Jacob Pullen, but for whatever reason Martin trusted Clent more and had him on the floor more.
Now its time to move on; Pullen and Clemente should definately give us a better starting tandem next season and hopefully Brown can continue to develop and we can get Evans or another solid SG prospect. We need more depth going into next season at the guard position, but I like what we have coming and they should be fun to watch.
-
Kent will be a solid whipping boy next year. Pullen will be as well if he doesn't "progress". Next in line will be Brown, then Anderon, then Sutton.

Yes when DK averages 8-10 ppg (shooting about 40%) and 6 rpg, we'll all be asking "why aren't you getting 15 and 8?!?!" :curse:

i would have agreed until this year. he was only asked to defend and hit open 3s this year. in response, he arguably had his worst year at ksu. he was really a disappointment this year, even given realistic expectations for his performance.

I don't disagree that it was a disappointing performance. He was what I thought he would be through most of December and January.

If both Beasley and Waker are gone, the whipping boy will be Sutton.

That makes some sense. We'll have to have one that is a really good player and one that is more of a role player. So Sutton replaces Walker and Kent replaces Stewart. Thats sounds about right.

I think we're forgetting about Gilbert. Don't count him out of the race. I could very easily see him and Brown pushing Sutton and Kent.
-
I think Gilbert is pretty much fully discounted.
-
the whipping boy(s) has(have) to play. if gilbert plays, he has a spot sewn up. but hopefully he won't play.
sutton is a good bet, but don't forget brown. that no-defense playing, layup-missing, 3-flinging &@#%er has high wb potential.

If only he could have kept his focus 100% on hoops instead of his family situation. What a selfish bastard he is.

Separate the person from the player. The reasons don't matter. The results do. Clent is probably a hell of a nice person (Wooly was too), but his results this year, for whatever reasons and valid or not, were not that great.

I think the whatever reason for Clent over Pullen was defense, he knew his role in that regard and was solid IMO, he D'ed up Mayo pretty well in Omaha.

FACT: Kevin Lewis was very nice, and a great all around guy who practiced hard and gave his all.
FACT: I hated seeing Kevin Lewis on the court.
-
FACT: Coach Clark was a heck of a nice guy and, from all reports, gave KSU his all and will probably continue to.
FACT: Coach Clark presided over some of the worst baseball ever played in The Big 8/Big 12.

So at the end of the day the hate should really go to Martin b/c he's the guy who consistently showed he trusted Stewart more than Pullen and as a result played him more minutes. And he's the one that continued to play him those minutes after he came back from his mom's death despite Stewart showing he wasn't the player he was before that (in Dec and Jan he had arguably the best stretch of basketball he ever had at K-State).

Yes. It was the one substitution/playing pattern that I didn't like at all. I don't know if I would characterize Martin has trusting Stew more, IMO, Martin was trying to prove points with Pullen and was holding him to a higher standard than Clent.
January and the first week or so of February was the best stretch of basketball that I have personally seen KSU play in more than a decade and my guess would be the best since around '92.

I love Clent, but IMO he was the SLTH of point guards.

That's fair, but I'll take it further. He's probably as close to the player form of Wooly as you can get.

Are you ever going to get over your Wooly love/disappointment?
I agree with most everything you've said about Clent, but sometimes, I think you're becoming a Clent apologist. You must purge your Wooly inside you.

Clent is like Kimberly Dietz, without the 3pt percentage, and with bigger lips.

There is no Wooly disappointment, though I'll admit I was a Woolite and I'm still partial to him. However, he needed to go and probably should've been gone after year 4 or 5.
And yeah, I'm a Clent defender, though I realize I'm not going to change anyone's mind so I don't get too crazy about it. I really can't defend the numbers that Clent put up the last half of the conference season; they weren't very good and I think Pullen should've played more. Our guards weren't very good this year and they were the downfall of this team, so in the end I wish Martin would've been willing to be a little more patient with Pullen and give him more minutes b/c he was by far our best playmaker outside of Beasley/Walker.

You are a good fan, but your track record indicates that you are either: 1) the worst evaluator of talent (coach & player) I have ever seen or 2) too nice to pull the trigger/cut your losses.
In either case, you are still a good guy in my book.

Clent played good defense, and I think Pullen doesn't. I also think Clent did better running the offense, but was easily picked due to poor skills of keeping the ball closer to his body when he drives to the basket.
I really appreciate what Clent did for the program, and he put up with more than any other player and still started. Just wished he'd have been a more consistent 3 point threat.

Really disappointed in Fausto's lack of disgust in this thread.

Dax????
What are you doing here? I don't think ku was even mentioned in this thread, and you're not trying to hijack this topic to attach the Jayhawks? Someone must have stole your login.

Nope, just surprised you haven't gone all sanctimonious on the people in this thread as per usual.

Clent is like Kimberly Dietz,
Not sure I see the similarity
If anything Dietz is more like Hoskins with the season ending injury.

1. Dietz is a guard
2. Dietz can't dribble drive
3. Dietz was expected senior leadership
4. Both played around 30 a game

Dietz should have played for the mens team...
