Huggins on leading scorer Cartier Martin, who in May was indefinitely suspended for violating the athletic department’s code of conduct and is working toward reinstatement: “He’s been fine. He’s just got to keep going.” Huggins said Martin isn’t allowed to work out with the team and is working individually with strength and conditioning coach Scott Greenwalt.

The game Jan. 3 in Cincinnati against Xavier is a homecoming of sorts for Huggins, who was asked whether he expected to see plenty of fans wearing his old team Cincinnati’s colors as a show of support. “I don’t think they’ll wear red and black. They’ll wear purple. It’s become very fashionable in Cincinnati.”

How about those four national TV games in 2006-07? “Honestly, that’s not near enough. We’ve got to be on a lot more than what we are now. Which if we can have another good recruiting class will happen.”

K-State plays Texas Tech and coach Bob Knight on Jan. 8 on ESPN’s “Big Monday.” Asked why he thought ESPN wanted that game, he said: “People are going to tune in to see which one of us does something stupid first. That’s not a knock on our guys. That’s just what they (TV) do.”

The Hugginses bought a home in Manhattan, Kan., and move in next month. He hopes the movers are prepared because his family will bring lots of stuff it accumulated from 1989 until the present in Cincinnati. “My wife (June) says there’s like 330 boxes.”

K-State will play around Thanksgiving in 2007 in a guaranteed three-game event in Orlando, Fla., that’ll be on ESPN, Huggins said.
