i dont know if anyone reads the bill simmons but he is like my favorite writer and he finally writes something about beasley and it is this trash
Crucial follow-up note: After watching Michael Beasley carefully for the last few weeks, my biggest fear is he could end up on the Shareef All-Stars some day. I definitely like him, he can definitely average a 24-10 in the NBA ... but why can't I shake the feeling he'll be better off putting up big numbers on a series of 32-win teams over playing on a contender? I haven't made my official decision on Beasley because I need to watch him a few more times, and it's hard to judge someone accurately when they're playing for the most incompetent and unlikable coach in Division I (the woefully overmatched and possibly homicidal Frank Martin).
Still, the fact that he's the spitting image of a young Derrick Coleman scares the holy bejeezus out of me. I can't shake it. At least with Derrick Rose, you're definitely getting a future All-Star point guard who makes everyone better. With Beasley, you're getting the guy who does all the things we already wanted Derrick Coleman to do ... which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but still, you never want to have the words "our No. 1 pick overall" and "next Derrick Coleman" in the same sentence. You just don't. So I need to think about this some more. Give me three more weeks.

I know. That was extremely harsh.
"incompetent" "unlikable" "overmatched" "homicidal"
Isn't that sort of crossing the line?

Debatable...it definitely won't help decrease the size of the chip on Frank's shoulder, if he sees it.

Remember when KSU fans were saying the same things about sean sutton?
-
bill simmons? more like richard simmons, what a fag! LMAO!
bill somons :flush:
-
Those are the sort of adjectives one would use for a brutal dictator, not a Division 1 head basketball coach.
I just wonder if actually meeting someone or observing them work in person should be required before throwing that sort of language around.
If I were the KSU SID, I would personally invite Mr. Simmons to a KSU game and schedule a one-on-one interview with Frank Martin.
-
Remember when KSU fans were saying the same things about sean sutton?
qft. bs is almost as stupid as our idiotic fanbase.
-

STFU. No one called Sean Sutton homicidal, jerk.

crap! I can't handle Bill Simmons (awesome) not liking us.
Srsly.

Tangent:
Is it smart to insult someone who you think is homicidal by calling them homicidal? Just seems dumb to me.
-
If you were a fan of school outside of this region...and then you saw us a limited amount of times (and more than likely we're losing because we can't win on ESPN or ESPN2) and you saw Frank's mannerisms on the bench, then couple that with looking at our record and realizing we have 2 NBA'ers on our team, you're probably going to have a similar description of Frank as Simmons did.

Only if you were a tard.

An excellent point.

the thing that pisses me off other than the shot at frank is last year he was on durant's nuts. and beasley is doing everything durant did and more and he writes this trash.
-
last year he closely monitored Durant, devoting entire articles to him. Maybe he'll do the same with Beasley this year.
-
Never heard of Bill Simmons (probably sucks) (< this is the correct way Kougar)

True, but I can see how someone with limited KSU viewing would think that.
Oddly, no one is calling Jim Boeheim incompetent and he has almost an entire roster of top 100 RSCI guys (which is better overall talent than KSU) and Syracuse is not doing anything more than KSU.

He took every single opportunity to destroy Rick Barnes too. See below
Whether they wanted to admit it or not, everyone who followed the 2007 Texas Longhorns knew the Rick Barnes-D.J. Augustin duo would submarine their chances this month ... but in Round 2? Barnes basically had his pants pulled down by USC coach Tim Floyd, whose defensive plan hinged on Durant's teammates taking terrible shots, Augustin falling apart and Durant's coach refusing to figure out simple ways to get Durant the ball. (Like, here's an idea -- they could have just given him the ball at midcourt and spread everyone else out. Nope. Floyd smartly defended Durant with smaller, quicker players who played him tight and took away his dribble-penetration moves, banking that Barnes wouldn't be smart enough to start posting Durant up in the block to take advantage of the size mismatch. And he wasn't.) Check out the play-by-play transcript in the second half from "USC 34-30" to "USC 51-33" -- USC goes on a 17-3 run over a four-minute span as the game slips away, Durant shoots the ball twice and Barnes waits until it's 50-33 to call his first timeout of the half. Seriously, it's all right there. They blew the game in less than four minutes and you could see it slip away as it happened. The USC kids wanted it more and they had a better coach.
Fact of the matter is...while Simmons is an entertaining writer, he knows less than dick about basketball. He's the same dude who claims he wants to be the VP of Common Sense and then advocates the Suns trade Amare Stoudemire for Marcus Camby.

I remember rolling my eyes when he was bashing barnes last year. What a tard.

That reads like, "I'm too of a FP to make a firm prediction of something that could come back and bite me in the ass, so I'll just raise the possibility of failure albeit with fantastic NBA stats. Oh, I'll also trash Martin because he's an easy target right now (although I didn't make these insightful observations 27 days ago.)
Hard to respect someone like that.

The why the &@#% did you wright the article dipcrap? just to slam(the worst one by anyone to date) Martin and foreshadow to more Beasley's NBA future bashing? I don't think anybody needs to see what he determines in three weeks, I think everyone can already guess.

The only difference between those teams and K-State is that they all have "known to be good" coaches and they lack the number one player in the nation.

Having followed the sportsguy since he was just the Boston sportsguy, I can say he is now the laziest writer outside of Whitlock. He writes awful, obvious books - "Now I can die in Peace" which is one of 341,731 books written about the 2004 Red Sox WS win - writes one column every 2 weeks for espn.com. Writes some of the worst stuff ever for a make believe ESPN magazine (which no one has ever actuall seen a copy of) and uses NBA trade programs for most other columns. His best columns are written by his readers who are now leaps and bounds better than him (think Rome when the callers became the show).
I used to look forward to his columns and now, weeks will go by before I check Page 2 because he is getting so lazy.
His wife, who writes like Courtney Love does on her myspace page, beat him soundly in NFL picks and he just cannot admit that he is really, really bad at handicapping games.
Clearly, he watched Durant closely but saw Beasley. Just clear that he takes the lazy way out. Oh well.

Never heard of Bill Simmons (probably sucks) (< this is the correct way Kougar)
I could never lie about Bill Simmons like that.

It's 2008, he is 2003. Go watch that cartoon he produced if you don't believe me.

It's 2008, and he is still really good at satirical sports writing.

Which I just said has declined more than McKinney's draft status following the bench press.
Have you ever read his Boston sportsguy stuff? He lived C-town when I lived out there and was really funny. Just has let up quite a bit. writes a ton less, only proposes trades for nBA this time of year, absolutely sucks at NFL picks for 4 years now but makes the worst excuses ever etc.
3 years ago he said he would be doing a big list of top sports movies...quit after 4 or so.
Said he would reccommend good sports books in his blog...quit after 4 or so.
Said he was going to blog many times a week...quit after a year or so.
He's just lazy. Explains why he doesn't care to watch Beaz play, just make 2 sided predictions that he will never be wrong on.
-
I don't read Simmons for sports knowledge; I read it for humor.
-
i agree with kougs...it is not like i read his nfl pics cuz i am gonna use his picks to bet on...but he is the best about making sports funny and he writes really well from the fans perspective. and yes he is lazy but when u are as good as he is u can be lazy and people will still love u. look at bill! :eyeseeyou:
-
Who said they read him for knowledge? I just made fun of his pics and that he was lazy. He is. There is nothing new on this.
I was just pointing out his humor has declined in quality and frequency.
I guess he still has some hardcore fans who think he is totally original. Most of my friends from Boston stopped reading.
-
Simmons, circa 2003  :excited:
Simmons, circa 2008 :jerkoff: :flush:
I agree w/ kougar that he's read for the humor; my problem is that his "humor" now mostly consists of the same rehashed jokes i.e. vegas, "can I get a ruling," etc. etc.
