Title: laptop advice
Post by: steve dave on February 27, 2008, 10:27:46 AM
Dell XPS M1530 or Sony VGN-FZ4000

Will config. either pretty high over the basic config.  Experience with either?  Reliability?  Performance?  Street cred?  Can't find reviews for Sony as I believe it just became available this month.  Dell has been pretty well received.  Worth is for the 9 series processor in the Sony (not available in the Dell)?  EDIT:  Added the HP as it seems even cheaper with most of the same features.  Graphic card difference?

No, No....Macs are great I'm sure...I'm just really loving having all this free Premier and Photoshop CS3 with more software than I clearly know what to do with...Just all free for the having and using and whatnot....no, I'm sure macs are great....still..... :flush:

ECN- sorry I couldn't negate that rebuttle. My Mac source went legit (wtf, right?).

Anywho, don't go for the HP. Their build quality is very poor. Their keyboards are very cheap and have lots of issues that HP is not willing to fix. Dell, believe it or not, has great customer service. The only catch is you have to call through Dell Business. I can't really speak for Sonys. They used to price themselves too high for mainstream, but anymore, they're all the same. I will recommend looking at Asus and Sager. They along with Clevo produce most of the world's laptops. Asus has some really nice looking stuff (and powerful, too). Since you're into graphic apps, I would definitely look at getting a higher res screen. I consider WSXGA to be a good fit for a 15".

ew2x4 probably thinks I'm all good at making videos and pictures and stuff.  I don't even know how to use it.  I just like the feeling of being able to decide to try to use it if someday I feel like it.  FWIW you're pretty awesome already big guy  :P

Just add all that $$$ you've saved pirating everythining in sight to her limit then show her how much below the real ceiling that one is.  Women use that sort of logic all the time; e.g., "I just had to spend $500 on this handbag, it was on sale for $250 off!  See how much money I saved!"

QFMFT - The ex's keyboard gave out 3 days after the warranty expired (1 frackin year) and I ended up spending hour after hour trying to fix it myself as a hand-me-down for one of my daughters.  Never could get it to work without a C-clamp on one side to allow the contacts to touch.  Piece of crap HP.

Not a big fan of cake.

Bonaroo has Sharon Jones (my favorite live band in the world, currently), Sigur Ros, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Pearl Jam, BB King, Iron & Wine, Willie Nelson, and Chris Rock, among others.  The lesser-known acts look pretty good, too.

and sorry waks.

I would obviously love to go to Bonaroo but Wakarusa still has a great lineup and is local. It's also a lot less overwhelming. Two of the three guys from Dispatch are playing Wakarusa. If they pick up the third and have a reunion then I'll be ecstatic.

Hope you enjoy Bonaroo with Steve Dave.
