Title: I am going to try and cook some cake.
Post by: opcat on February 14, 2008, 04:02:40 PM
Sponge Cake.  Same stuff in wedding cakes.  Tender and moist.

It's a lot like angel food cake which i LOVE.  Buy it at the grocers and put some berry preserves on top(boysenberries, mullberries or called forestberries).

Sponge is similar but uses all the eggs unlike angel which tosses egg yolks.

Most cake mixes are dense and terrible.  Preprocessed stuff is usually terrible and takes shortcuts.  Bisquick for pancakes is not as good as handmade with flour, soda, baking powder.

Here's the cake.

warning:  they make it easier than it really is. baking is very hard.  don't keep opening your oven when its baking or it could cook unevenly.

I will keep that in mind.  I can make those storebought box cakes.

This is the exact kind of sponge i will try to duplicate.

Chocolate sponge.

By the way Ghriraldi's Brownies mix sold in the grocers is 'quality'.

They make great chocolate unlike our own KC Russel Stovers which makes sh**.  You wont regret it.  Buy a box and tell me I am wrong.

Not a fan of orange rolls.  Like to keep fruit/veg. out of good food.  I love Grand's biscuits  :lick:  Then I read the package and it said they have eleventy-bajillion grams of trans fat.  Now I love them more because I know they are so bad  :-[

They are just like cinnamon rolls, but the icing is orange flavored.

I call them "orange danishes".  Don't like them as much.  One distinct difference is you can unroll the orange dani's, can't unroll the cinnamon.

Yoder cinnamon rolls are the best, fresh from The Carriage Crossing.   Although the ones they made for us in grade school (60's) were unfreakinbelievably wonderfrackinfull.  Orange pillsbury are yuuuuummmy.  I eat the whole damn batch in about 5 minutes.

Not a fan of sponge, something with the texture turns me off.  Give me a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting anytime.

another baking tip, always put it in right as the oven starts the heat up cycle, you don't want to put it in right as it gets hottest because the temp control allows it to cool some.  you want it after it is completely heated and as it begins the new heat cycle.

Mrs. cyclist and I dipped pork rinds in dark chocolate.  Then we snuggled on the couch watching Hee-Haw reruns and sharing the dark chocolate pork rinds.
