I used to buy in to the Mach 3/Fusion hype until I realized what a gigantic ripoff they were. I've been using disposables for awhile now but am tired of them, so now i'm getting in to traditional wet shaving.
Ordered me one of these:
w/ a badger brush and some shaving soap. Blades can be had for around 10 cents a piece. (double edged!) :notworthy:
-
sensor excel and go through a box of 5 blades a year or so.
and this crap

-
mach 3, expensive but I use the crap out of the blades.
-
Mach 3 turbo, much better cut than regular mach 3. Blades last, like, forever.

QFT - Those babies are tough. Hint: if after the first couple of uses you think they are worn out, keep pushing on and you'll find they last like a damn month apiece. And I've got wirehair. Also, use soap for lather, much much the better than anything supposedly for shaving. I think the creams/foams are made to wear out blades.

same razor. i use old spice stuff.
-
the Mach # Turbo is where its at, with Nieva(sp) for men cream
-
Can't wait to shave!
-
Mach 3 Turbo for sure.
They sent me one for free when I turned 18, and I used the same damn blade for probably a year. Didn't have to shave so much back then, though. Now I'm usin' about a blade per 2 or 3 months and even then it's hard to tell if they're really that worn out.
Edge-Extra Moisturizing for cream.
-
You guys can use a blade that rotates? NO WAY.. trust me I got more facial hair than all of you and I use a slim twin because it's got 2 stationary blades. With the aveeno stuff so because it's got the least offensive smell. Been cutting myself a lot lately though, so maybe I should switch back to Gilette Foamy.
I'm interested in your setup, though Saul.

Really?
I use Fusion because I need the single blade.

Usually this:

I use Mach 3 Turbo as well. The Gillette Gel is pretty nice.
My problem is I hate shaving. It grows fairly fast, so I should shave every day or two or else i look like a bum. I end shaving about every 5th day. So I was looking into a nice Braun 360 set. I'm hoping that it will get me to shave every day. Have any of you used this before? I have used cheap electric razors and they're not good at all. Any input?

If you like a close shave, you will be disappointed with any electric razor, IMO. It will get you a nice 5:00 shadow every day but won't get very close.

Optical inch works on face as well.

I was gonna make a machete joke, but B already killed that.
I just use an electric, don't remember which one. Every other day, longer than that and it gets painful. Don't really care about getting the smoothest close shave, I don't spend all day touching my face with gentle caresses.

this little number is for your marble sack duh

I would kill for a good 5:00 shadow. If I let my facial hair grow out I would look like Joe Dirt.

I thought this was a revival off the ball-shaving thread and was almost disappointed to find out otherwise.
Anyway, I'm a bigtime Mach 3 guy. Also, I shave only in the shower. I find that the steamy environment gives a better shave than just standing at the bathroom sink.

Yeah, me too. Mach 3 in shower or immediately after.

I need a mirror.

'rents won't let me shave.

I need a mirror.
At Target they have some nice little fog free mirrors, with built in clock, that suction to the wall. Two Cents
-
Yep, shower too. And again for you newbies, after years of buy stuffs to put on before shaving I was informed by another knowledgeable shaver that soap is much better. It is. Try it dammit. :cyclist:

TRIED, SUCKED.

Shaving in the shower is for big-time retards. The hot steam from the shower opens up your pores really wide which may make shaving easier (if you're a puss) but it also promotes razor stubble and in-grown hairs because the stubble will bend back into your skin -you retards. Want a rash? In grown hair on your neck? Feel like a puss retard??
Shave in the shower.
GOD WHAT A BUNCH OF CLOWN FRACKERS.
-
I have a shower mirror from bed bath and beyond, cost like 10 bucks. It uses the "power lock" suction instead of a regular suction cup. Also keep the mirror away from the shower head, on the other side of the shower. Works great.

Not bad. Plus, looks like something rich guys probably use....so there's that too.

Cartridges too expensive. Over the long haul this will save $$$, and provide a better shave.

2 12 packs of Mach 3 blades will friggin pay for the thing!
They don't last that long either if you want a consistently good shave, at least on my face.

ingrown hairs caused by shaving against the direction of hair growth. google 'cause of ingrown hair'.
You must shave with hot water or you don't get a close shave. The best shave is in the shower.
Get real novice.
-
This type of thread is all over every messageboard because of prices for those stupid cartridges that probably cost a $0.25 quarter to make.
Hey Saul, did you get that idea from? ??....
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6886845/
I would love to buy a straight edge razor.

Trust me dude, shower shaving is the best way.

The problem w/ a straight edge is the maintenance required. You'd have to get a strop.
Good article so far, though. I haven't read it all yet, but did they mention WHY people have gotten away from the ways of old?
Gillette used to manufacture double edged razor (like the Merkur I posted), and the blades. However, other companies started to manufacture blades that would fit their razors, and for cheaper. They wanted the ability to control the prices of their blades to maximize profits, so they went with a proprietary cartridge based system.
-
Sorry brah, need a mirror. Just shave in the sink like a real man.
Sink shaving is for peachfuzz-having, high school kids who don't know the first goddam thing about real shaving. Just stick a fracking suction cup mirror in your shower.
Real men who have 60 grit sandpaper on our faces know all about shower shaving.
-
I think I've still got the Gilette sensor I got when they sent me one when I was 16 (no 30--yes, I fell into the man's trap). Have picked up a couple others over the years so I could keep at GF's house or put in a travel bag. A few years ago, I picked up a couple of electric shavers for a total of $13 when my store put some on clearance for 90% off. Still haven't opened the 2nd. But I only use those when I have light stubble. Thick stuff requires a blade in the shower. Less mess and less razor burn and ingrown hairs.

I've found that if you throw a little water on the mirror it will stay clear long enough to shave. So pretty much its a normal mirror.

Does it make the balls itch? I have issues with cutting the pubes too close and then getting itchy....been going with the forest for some time now. Wife doesn't seem to mind, but oral has been in a decidedly bear market since 2002.

qft. be careful though cause it has a tendency to grab the balls if you get careless.

I haven't had any "grabbing" issues personally. Also, was joking about it also working for face (haven't tried but guessing there could be issues). Recommend for strictly below the waste line maneuvers.

Yeah, but I mentioned early in the life of this thread that it works for faces too. People new to my hilarious antics may have taken it serious and I don't want that hanging over my head, you know?

Kmart has the new Torq 6 blade razors.
Not bad. 4 razors for 6 dollars.
Bought Sensor 3's before. Pretty good value at Walmart. 3 or 4 for $4.
Looking to get a merkur double edged razor.
straight edge
