Title: The tide has officially turned again
Post by: ZeroFor28 on January 04, 2008, 04:23:00 PM
I want to first say that it was a joy reading about KSUCKs forst 100 years, to which they won ZERO bowl games and were easily the laughingstock of college football. No other major college or pro team can say they had a longer spell of not winning a post season game so congrats on owning the worst record in sports.

I also want to commend you all for having a nice 10 year run to which you werent doormats anymore and finally giving us some decent games.

But back to reality, KSUCK wont beat ku for the next decade and you all will be watching us playing in the postseason just like basketball every season.

But hey, you got those Future Farmer of America titles and NIT banners as bragging rights still  :thumbsup:

The game in Manhattan was tough loss.  It was closer than the score.

A few more healthier players might have tipped the balance.

It will be tought at your place but the D will have more depth and and the offense will be stronger.

It's still 41 years and counting since ku's last conference championship in football.

Reverting back to the Hoaxian playbook, call us when you win the conference.

I just realized ku's best team EVER beat KSU's worst team in nearly two decades by 6 points. That doesn't seem to say much about this ku team other than it was a pretty big fluke. Just sayin' though.

well folks there it is...one very good year in 40 years and the tide shifts.

You were last in the Big 12 North in 2005 and had a worse overall record (4-7) in 2004.

I think that you know it's more than just this one season that is indicative of the tide shifting.  In '03, it would have been ludicrous to even question KSU's dominance in the State.  Now, I'm fairly certain most people would agree that ku has a slight, and growing, lead.

You never answered the question in the other thread.  Which school currently has the better football program?  Kansas or Kansas State?

kansas, but ours is  more bold and daring, right now ku is ahead. one good year from us could balance it back and probably swing to our favor over recent history *fairly recent

LOL at your bold and daring, that truly is a good remark.

MHO, I agree with you, if KSU wins 1 or 2 in a row it's a whole new game.

While I'm proud of ku winning 3 of 4 from KState, that doesn't erase the string KSU had over ku, and besides the '93 and '94 seasons the rest were all beatdowns IIRC.

As an agricultural education major (and future FFA advisor), I can't tell you how many ways your comment is off the mark. First the FFA, hasn't been called the Future Farmers of America since 1988. The agricultural organization comprises all aspects of agriculture, the nation's largest employer. It also employs more scientists and businessmen than any other industry. The organization is for high school youth (which shows why your relation to K-State having titles in it is ill informed). With over half a million members nation wide, it is the largest career and technical education organization (With almost 75% urban membership). Both LHS and Free State have their own FFA chapters. Just a little FYI.

Congrats on your win. A 12 win season should be congratulated, no matter what. Do it 6 out of 7 years, and then I'll be really impressed.

Very good post overall.  I would only dispute the "growing" aspect.  Given the recruiting rankings it is a push at best and our coach is just getting his traction (hopefully he gets it soon or he may not ever get it and your "growing" holds true).  Mangino has done more with ku than I thought he would ever do.  Props to him, Srsly.  I know the question wasn't to me but it is a no-brainer that ku is on top in both sports right now (a distinction we never had during Snyder's tenure).  Hope ku continues to be very good in both (srsly).   :blindfold:

I'm impressed, steve dave.  I'd almost given up hope on ever finding reasonably intelligent discourse over here.  ;)

The "growing" comment was mainly to tweak Hatter, honestly.  I think Kansas holds a slight overall lead right now, but next year is the kicker.  The Jayhawks return a sizable chunk of this year's team, on both sides of the ball, so another very good season (9+ wins and a good bowl) is within reach.  Prince and the Wildcats need to answer the bell next year, IMO.  Next season is the lynchpin.

If anything, Mangino (and to a lesser extent, Pinkel, Solich, and Callahan) has shown that "leads" mean very little and can change VERY quickly in the Big 12 North.  Freaking Nebraska was in the National Title game just six years ago.

That's entirely true, Rusty, but I think you have to have just the right combination of factors to get things going in the right direction.  With ku this year it was a combination of player development, a brand new offensive system, and a favorable schedule.

It's much easier to lose ground than it is to gain, which is why I think next season is so critical for Prince.

Not likely but the majority of teh Chiefs fans want Carl gone every year and you see how far he has went.

Hunts = Wefald
Carl = Weiser

yes, nu was in the nc game just 6 years ago but 2 things.  we did not win the big 12 or the north that year, we walked in because during the lat 10 days of tyhe season, the 6 teams ranked higher than us all lost their games, and each team that lost, was favored to win.  Now tell me what are the odds of that ever happening again?

also, 6 years is a long time, lots can happen in 6 years.  Solich and callahan provided proof to both sides of the coaching vs talent debate.  Frank could motivate lesser talented recruits to somewhat average results and callahan failed miserably to motivate highly regarded recruits to average results.

the question is, if prince isn't the right coach for ksu is the ksu program strong enough to sustain a trip to the pre snyder era and recover?
Title: Re: The tide has officially turned again

The "pre-snyder era" was things like going 0-29-1 over a 30 game stretch, I don't see that happening.
