Title: What were your grades this year?
Post by: Kat Kid on December 21, 2007, 01:35:10 PM
I got 4 A's and two B's.

Only a 3.65 though because two of the A's were 2 hr classes.

What did the rest of you degenerates bring home for Christmas?

well I graduated but my best semester gpa was 3.5 4 times.  Worst 1.75 my first semester with college algebra, public speaking, cis 1-4, university experience, and freshman seminar.  I don't think I was challenged enough and I blame ksu.

I no longer take classes for the purpose of getting grades.  I sit through conferences for Professional Development Hours.  I guess I've gotten an "A" in all of those, cuz they give me a certificate after each one.

4.0, but still don't have my calc grade, which I am nervous about.  My tests were 96%, 110%, <50% (don't know), and probably >100%.

eece 431 - Pud.
eece 511 - Pud if you passed 510.
eece 557 - Pud if Ken Carpenter isn't teaching it.
cis 300 - Might as well take Underwater Basket Weaving 101.
math 510 - Easiest math course the college of engineering will actually give you credit for.
stat 510 - If I flip a coin what is the probability of it coming up heads?  Bonus extra credit: does the probability change on the next flip?

 :frown:

If you get less than a 4.0 it will confirm that you're an utterly worthless human being.

I'll be thrilled with a 3.0 this sems. I don't have the discipline to do much better.

The hell of it is the most entertaining tech job I ever had utilized four of those six classes in a very direct way.  Pay attention in EM theory, you never know when someone might make you an anteanna designer.   :ohno:

Math 510 is pretty hit and miss.  Make sure you don't get a communist for a teacher.  If you get the easy guy, then it's by far the easiest class I ever took at KSU.  D first time, A second time.  Very useful for 3 card monte players, otherwise   :jerkoff:

Stat 510 is &@#%in easy.

557--is that EM theory?  That class is pretty tough.  I had the lady (seriously I can't remember anyone's name anymore.)  That's one you gotta keep up with every day.  I was notorious for simply not doing homework, so I got a C.  Hardly anyone uses this stuff, so I say survive and advance.

EECE 431--finally something worthwhile.  I suggest you start thinking about coming up with a decent project to do right now.  Ours sucked and I really regret it.  Think it was a fairly easy B.  This will be useful in your career.

EECE 511--I barely remember it.  Got a B I think.  Circuits are pud.

CIS 300--They switched to Java the semester after I took it (was C++).  It's probably a lot easier using a programming language written for secretaries.  I never learned how to program at K-State, but at least in this class I learned that programming is somehow possible.  You will learn absolutely nothing from the lectures, but the teachers will teach if you go in during office hours.  Pretty important to ace this class before going forward.

That's a pretty rough schedule.  If I were you, I'd drop EM theory and try to get As in all the other classes so you can coast through the rest of your college career with a decent GPA.  21 (and the subsequent total lack of interest in school) isn't that far off.  Nobody needs to graduate in 4 years anyway.  Take the one really fun class at K-State, which is the robotics contest.  Warning it is very time consuming--forget about Mexico over Spring Break.

LOL: Note just saw the message by Az about EM theory.  He probably works for Motorola??  I've been in software and storage devices my entire career, so obviously a different perspective.  You'll probably never touch hardware unless you really really are into it.  There just aren't that many jobs to go around.  Everyone ends up in software eventually.   :users:

He probably works for Motorola??

The tech sector's equivalent of explosive diarrhea?  I can neither confirm nor deny any past or present relationship with them.  Nor can I confirm or deny whether or not I may have cashed out a whole bunch of stock within 24 hours of the all-time peak which, by no small coincidence, might have been just shortly before my departure, a blow from which they have obviously never recovered.  Well, if I was there at all that is.

EM theory, the rest of fatty's schedule, and indeed the remainder of his degree program at KSU aren't really all that important in the long term view.  The only classes that truly matter for an undergrad engineering student are those in which they enroll in during their eventual MBA program.  A corollary is that the recent engineering grad's first job is absolutely critical to his or her career development ... but not for the reasons most suspect.  Three rules for selecting a first job that will yield the highest probability of success in one's "engineering" career: 1. Select a job with a work site in close proximity to a top 20 MBA program; 2. Select a job with an employer in the habit of paying for their employees to complete the local top 20 MBA program; and 3. Ensure that said employer is large enough and financially supportive enough of the university hosting the local top 20 MBA program to significantly raise the odds of admission for its employees.

This is hilarious, because this happened to me this semester. I got a B in ND, but I never went to class or really tried. Mainly because I care more about my graduate courses (of which I have a 4.0).

not that anyone cares but A B B C

A cancels out the C.

That's how it used to go for me too.  Then the C's started ganging up on the B's and A fled the scene.

Nice to see this semester that the B's have kept the C's at bay and made way for A to come back with his bros.

yea, you go like once a week and watch a sweet movie, take occasional quizes, write one paper, and take a final.  watched crap like equilibrium, gladiator, casino royale, porn (not really), howl's moving castle (great movie), and i forgot what else.

IMO, replace top 20 with accredited and you're spot on.  If you want to be a CEO or wall street coke head top 20 is useful, but if you're content with being a regular ole successful multi-millionaire, an aacsb accredited MBA program is good enough.  You may start out one level below the top 20 guy in similar company because his school is better, but it'll only take two years to leap frog him if you're smarter.  Also, above a 3.0 grades don't matter, it's all about the interview, these companies know smart people when they see them.  Just an IMO though.
