east side of lake perry, between perry and meriden.

i shot it with my new schmidt-reuben K31. it shoots a swiss 7.5x55 bullet. pretty cool rifle, and I bought it for $100

i wish you'd shoot some of those big damn ducks that are everywhere but i think it's illegal.   :yuck:

my buddy has been trying to shoot a deer for a couple weeks now, he's using a bow and arrow but i doubt he ever gets one.

Congrats. Really nice buck, shaft.

Got mine a couple weeks ago with a bow. Fourth bow buck in my first five years. Decent 9 pointer, but my smallest yet.

Just kill the f*cking does.  shooting bucks is worthless.

Rifle hunting is like the easiest thing in the world to do.

My 78 year old grandpa shot his first deer by 8:30 opening day.

ya, i usually shoot a doe a year so i have meat in the freezer. helps control population better than shooting a buck and it helps my grocery bill. but, i wasn't going to pass on this guy. shooting bucks is hard sometimes in rifle season when they are post rut though. this year, the rut seemed a little late as this guy was still going on dec 1.

ya, i process the whole thing myself. you have just never had one properly prepared. the backstraps are better than a filet of beef, imo. a lot of people eat some "gamey" meat and it turns them off, but it is pretty good if you know what you are doing.

can't go wrong with either of those calibers. i like a .270 too if you want a compromise between those two.

easton had a crappy baseball field when i was growing up. no outfield fence and you could run into the light poles if you weren't paying attention. and the mosquitoes by that river or whatever there were absolutely terrible.

For some reason I keep seeing Ron White's skit on hunting deer.  "That's an elusive little sucker.  If you miss, just get in a van going 55 with the horn blowin, the deer will actually jump in front of you".   j/k, nice deer.

mule is better than whitetail, imo.  elk is &@#%ing fantastic.

if it tastes real gamey, it was prob. either poorly butchered or wasn't killed quickly.  buildup of lactic acid and excess blood from internal bleeding in a slow dying animal will affect the taste quite a bit.  an animal hit in a major artery, heart, or lung usually will taste clean (or animal quickly killed via another route and immed. bled).

Backstrap.  Just be sure to remove the silver skin.  Best filet you'll ever have.  (Well I guess that Waigu/Kobe beef is supposed to be awful good.)
