They are used on every vehicle, they won't pass inspection without one (in any state that requires inspection), hell they are on most electric generators now.

I didnt realize there was a market for stolen ones

Apparently you can sell the platnium inside them for a pretty good dime. However, I'm not sure that is the case here. There was another guy jacked at the same time today in this parkinglot.
I drive a frickin' sunfire, he drives a Camry...really, really uncool cars and to boot, they are hard to get under without a jack. If you are smart, you crawl under any number for 15 trucks and jack their Cat. I have a feeling someone has a Sunfire and a Camry in town with new Cats underneath. Apparently this happened a month ago, same parking lot....It is one of the oddest things I have ever been involved in. :violin:

Platinum is selling for about $1400/oz right now, but I don't think there is but a small fraction of an oz in a cat converter.

Used OEM converters scrap for more than you would think. Aftermarket ones (ones that a place like Midas would use) aren't worth anything. If someone jacks 6 a day they could actually make some decent coin.

Speaking of, did Rusty ever get robbed?

A neighbor did the night the lady came to my house.
Activity has quieted down since.

got my car fixed, Sunday....It cost me about 100 dollars in parts (+tip) after all that business.

A tip?

A tip?
yeah, I gave the guy some money for welding the pieces back under my car.

Some European cars have a different metal in their catalytic converter. Can't think of what it is right now, but it's worth more than platinum. Fletcher Imports in Joplin, MO which is near Pittsburg, had a dozen or so vehicles on their lot have their cats stolen in one night. Cops think all the guys used was a small floor jack and a cordless sawzall.
Two Cents

I hear there is Plutonium in a bowling ball.

yup, that's pretty much the deal here. I'm not even sure if he used a jack, just slide your hand up there with he sawzall and hit the trigger
