Red = Stunner's takes
purple = fatty's takes
Florida - great coaching and tradition/ won't be BMOC, poor academics (for his major), humid, bad topology,
Kansas State - kind of home / Manhattan is home to arthur, would make fatty VERY VERY happy, good student union, flint hills area nice
LSU - great coaching and tradition / very poor academics, jerseys inconsistent, ugly QB, coach may leave to UMichigan
Miami - beautiful location and great tradition / poor fan attendance, program in free-fall (unlike ours), play in pro stadium
North Carolina - great coaching / basketball school. next.
USC - great location, coaching, and tradition / "just another 5 star"
-
IMHO, (h for honest), I hope Arthur picks a school that makes him happiest.
Go Arthur!!! :excited:

You know what though, when Arthur says his choices are all even, we probably better take his word for it. Go Arthur!

good student union,
WOW.. that's a selling point!!! :jerkoff: :hookem:

Well it can't compare to the "One Free Rape" Card they hand out at NU that's for sure.
-
I don't think he'd be the BMOC the moment he steps on campus anywhere except KSU, imo. And that's not because I don't think he's a good/great player, it's just that every other school either (a) already has a roster full of players just like him or (b) their student fan base doesn't really care that much about college football.

Granted, it doesn't beat out the Tommy Lee STD distribution tour that was held in Lincoln.

It's a big hole in the ground right now.

I can't believe I am even typing this....
One more reason that it seems unlikely that we'll get Arthur Brown (cough, cough)...is that Harper has seemingly lowered his interest in KSU, and Broderick Smith is now listing Arizona and Minnesota as co-leaders. I am guessing that those kids talk with Arthur from time to time.
-
RP can even screw up a crapty recruiting class and make it even craptier.
-
Florida - hurricanes
Kansas State - Home, Instant Star, Great Following, Ability to transform himself into a Kansas legend if stays in state before going to pros, no hurricanes or earthquakes...
LSU - hurricanes
Miami - huricanes, increased chance of getting shot and be involved in an on field brawl
North Carolina- a program that won't gel around him
USC - earthquakes, way too busy lifestyle.... and I agree with fatty, just another 5 star
-
You know what, I forgot to add that Brown is pretty EMAW!

But after that, what do we have?
:'(
We have a program built first and foremost on the importance of DEFENSE(linebacker play in the 3-4) and special teams. We make defense a priority(minus the last two games) and our success has always been built around it.

It's a big hole in the ground right now.
That hole in the ground results in a higher stadium decibel level when Arthur is on the field head hunting a quarterback on 3rd and 13 from their own 1 yard line.

We're spending too much time worrying about one guy.
We need Dtackles + Oline + solid lbs.
I don't think ku has alot of 5 star guys.
Yeah He'll help but one player would make that much of a difference? We need big bodies ;good HS players and Depth.

I'd be floored if any of the local (Wichita) kids end up at K-State.
Be honest - if you were a high school star in Kansas and were being recruited by Urban Meyer and Pete Carroll, you'd rather go to K-State and be coached by Ron Prince? Not a slap, just reality. Those men have won national championships.

Sure. I can see that, too. See my point? Really, it's not bitterness or anything else. It's tough winning those battles.

What if we had a better record and were still in the running to win the North with a win over Missouri? Would we have had a chance then?

who is harper being recruited by that's all-everything? weiss? LOL. Oregon? whatever.

no i don't see your point. didn't eliminating ou eliminate a former national championship coach, and one who AB had the longest relationship with (re. national championship coaches)?
also your statement was regarding all the wichita area kids. did not know that (regarding CH) weiss and bilotti had won national titles.
Hey JM have you been to the zoo yet to visit Touchdown?
He knows the truth. :ksu: :ksu: :ksu:

Oregon is the hotness right now. Fun offense, Eugene is mad cool and it's near Nike. 'Nuff said. Say what you want about Charlie Weis, but he has a Super Bowl ring. That speaks to kids who want to play in the NFL. And parents know what Notre Dame used to be, and that resonates.
K-State needs an infusion of something. No buzz, no cool factor for these kids. Teenagers are fickle, man. They want the flavor of the moment. K-State is lacking that right now.

Ron needs a perm, a mustache, some chops, and a wallet that says "Bad Motherf*cker" on it to be cool. (also, winning games would help).

Harper's family are all KSU fans. Same with Broderick's.
to lose out on both of them, prince can't land that program changer. Simple as that.
-
with J-mart on pain killers, this thread has some potential. Why hasn't the Brian Butler factor been mentioned yet? :peek:

KSU may be lacking some cache but we seem to be bringing in the bball players. I mean for all the Arhtur Brown this and that crap and why would he go to KSU stuff we've got two hoops recruits that are sure fire can't miss millionares that came half way across the country to play bball for KSU. Athletically Brown, Harper etc don't hold a candle to Beasley or Walker.
Probably less then 50% chance either even takes a snap in the NFL. Honestly not sure what the fuss is about one football player he's probably rated about the same out of high school as Chris Patterson was and he's not exactly changing our program anytime soon. You just don't know what these kids are going to be if he wants to come to KSU then great deal if not I don't really care. The website and the parading around is a little too much for me. Who was the last great player from Wichita, Deanglo Evans? He ended up being a pretty good RB for Emporia State. I don't know that ku even has a 4 star recruit on the roster much less a 5 star and they are what 3rd in the country.

every program who is currently on the national radar has had some low points in their history. They were able to overcome their lack of glare by hiring a coach who convinced recruits to come play despite whatever circumstances had kept kids from coming there in the past. sure it seems logical to want to go to USC over KSU. but when the kids are from Kansas, I can't help but think that we should get at least some of those kids. I won't make my decision on Prince based solely on his recruitment of this group of kids, but if it continues over the next couple years, then he is obviously not a good enough recruiter. Because we have all seen it accomplished in Manhattan and other places off the beaten path before. It can be done again. we just have to find the magnet.

Couldn't agree more. Look at what Ron Zook is doing in Champaign. That said, failing "the magnet," can you blame these kids for listening to coaches like Carroll and Meyer, who obviously have something in their possession?

RP just needs to keep adding mayo, IMO.
Also, going for it on fourth down from the opponents 42 with 1:30 left in the first half would help.
-
I don't think you have to get these kind of kids to be good and if anything Prince spends too much time trying to land them. The walk through at WT East was one of the dumber things I've heard and I'm not convinced that stuff like that hasn't conrtriubted to some of the problems Prince has with his current team. If you're a player getting ready to play a big 12 game and you're doing it at a high school a couple hours away from the game site all in the name of landing some 18 year old kid then how does that make you feel? Football is about bringing in classes of 20 to 25 good solid football players every year. Landing one top player isn't going to make or break you the way it can in basketballl.
And I know people will say the top programs USC, LSU, Florida etc recruit well. And yes that is true if you can bring in classes full of nothing but 4 star and 5 star kids you'll probably be good. KSU is never going to do that and LSU, Florida etc don't spend that much effort on any one kid because they don't have too. I'd rather Prince spend his time trying to find the next Jordy Nelson or Ian Campbell then going the extra mile to land the Arthur Browns of the world. Offer the kid a ship show them some love and hope they come to your school. They're just on piece to the puzzle in recruiting it's probably far more important what the bottom kids in your class look like then it is what the top 5 or so look like. That is why Florida, USC, Texas, LSU etc are good because the worst kid in their class is still pretty damn good.
-
Jeff-
No, you can't blame these kids for their interest in USC or Florida. I'm not mad at any of these kids or any others for the choices they make. It's their opportunity. I'm more concerned about my team's ability to recruit. You mentioned Zook. Illinois didn't have much to sell at all and he did anyway. I'm just saying KSU needs some coaches who can sell anytime, anyplace, anywhere for whatever reason. I don't care if it's because they have a ring, a famous name, a nice smile, great facilities, religious faith, or a great offensive scheme. Just get me some coaches who will get the players. And I don't see why we should settle for players who we hope will "develop" either. Mizzou has put together a team consisting of a whole lotta KC and missouri kids. why shouldn't ksu be getting some of those kids who are choosing MU? well, find a coach who is going to outrecruit MU coaches. I'm already concerned about Prince's staff. They are not getting their first or second choices of recruits.

And both Meyer and Carroll were Prince once upon a time. Dick Schaap was a Jeffrey Martin once upon a time too. Meyer and Carroll just so happen to be at two of the programs which get the most talent so there is nothing to indicate they would do as well or a better job that Prince walking into the situation he did as a young coach. Carroll has been FIRED twice as an NFL head coach(a distinction shared by Bill Callahan, who guided his team to the Super Bowl).
But getting back to "those men have won national championships"...it's unreal that Carroll loses any games given the talent he has on that SC team. Give me a break that Stanford beat them at home.
