Title: New Zune
Post by: steve dave on November 13, 2007, 01:29:10 PM
Looks pretty sweet.  $250 for the 80gb.  Looks to have a nice screen and is compatible with media center downloads.  FM receiver and shows name of station and song title with many stations.  WiFi.

I have the 30 G that I got for $99 a few weeks ago.  I was going to update it today to the new firmware and software (awesome thing about the Zune--they're making all the upgrades available for the old model) today, but I left it at work, so the upgrade has to wait until tomorrow.  I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

I bought one of the new iPod 4g Nanos when they first came out and used it about a month.  It worked well enough, but I'm just as happy with the Zune.

You can still get the 30 G versions on Amazon and on Woot every now and then, for about $85 now.  Pretty good deal, given that you get everything upgraded to the new version.

Yeah, I though about that.  I really like video podcasts though and the new one sincs and downloads your subscribed podcasts wirelessly.  Will the software allow that with the 30g?  I really don't need the wireless part if it will automatically download the podcasts.  What color did you get?  I would probably go Black but the old 30g brown one is pretty sweet too.  Is the old one too big to work out with?

EDIT:  Also, I read the new 80g comes with good "premium" headphones.  This is kind of a big deal for me because I was looking to upgrade headphones but had not done so yet.

I have an old White Zune. I upgraded it and it's very nice so far. I need to test out the new stuff.

Any update on how the software update worked out for you 30g guys?  There is a woot off today and if they run them by for $80 or less I may pull the trigger pending your report.  I really like the new 80g but the price is just so right.

Software update went fine for me.  Did they show up on the woot off?  I couldn't check it much.   :'(

Not yet but I have missed about half of the items with work and drinking and whatnot.  I probably wouldn't pull the trigger anyway given FFF's slam of the battery life.  I am in it for about 90% airplane tv show/movie/vieo watching.  I need battery life as well as good capacity/sound quality/FM radio/automatic podcast downloads.

Mine lasts about 10 hours for music. 2 hours for video.

Yeah, I'll just hold out for someone to buy me the new 80g with better battery.

I also got mine for $100. It's a good deal for the FM tuner and UI alone.

I really like that one.  I also like the new Creative Zen.  The only downside to both is HD space.  May end up going this route though as they are smaller.

I gave serious consideration to the new Creative Zen, too.  It's nice that they have the SD slot on top of the 16 G, 8 G, or 4 G built in memory.

At the end of the day, though, I returned the new Nano and just kept the Zune because I'm still planning to get iPhone v2 sometime next year, assuming it's released, and having another player that doesn't hold my whole collection would just be redundant.  Of course, the 30G Zune barely holds my entire collection...but I couldn't beat the price for the features.
