Allowing him to play the OLB position in the 3-4 defense. Brilliant move on their part fwiw.

If he were at DE - I would say 2-3 a season but now, they all will dominate him.

I still think each of you is giving Campbell too much credit. He's under-sized as a DE and too slow as an OLB. He's had some nice games in the past but he's not the next Nyle Wiren or Darren Howard. He is what he is, a decent DE whose playing out of position thanks to the coaching staff.

IMO - no one could match Howard as a DE.
Ian has the speed to get around his blocker but, this year with the move....he just isn't getting the pressure on the QB like he should.

last year was a fluke? Ian has more responsibility this year besides bull rushing the qb and going after the outside rush. covering TE's and WR's take him out of passing downs on most plays. kinda helps that we had a decent defensive interior line last year with Echols, but now we just suck something massive. hopefully Olu, Finau, and Xavier will shore up some spots next year. and i agree, move Ian back to the line.
as we've been saying since the end of '03, there's always next year.

Ian hasn't done much when he has been in the 4man fronts either, or lined up as a DE in the 3-4. He rushes, more than he plays OLB(which is bad).
Teams just know how to play him. I think he'll be better next year without Balkom in the middle though.

Lets see...instead of Q and Moran (or Cline) at the interior spots, we have...Cline alone...or Balkom. Buckets of LOL's.
Rob and Ian are both suffering at the hands of the ill-equipped 3-4 we have. Even in the 4-3, we don't have a disruptive player like Q so the the overall results are not good. Agreed that Cambell isn't really suited for OLB. I bet he packs on 10 lbs and goes back to DE next year anyway.
I really like Cline...but there was a reason Q and Moran both played ahead of him. We don't have the talent on the interior line spots for a 3-4 OR a 4-3 this year :curse:
Hope we sign that Burgess kid to go along with Xav and Finau, then maybe next year will be different (saying that is getting fracking old).
