For personal reasons, according to my NU bro-in-law.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse for Cornhusker fans...
Will Sharpey be his replacement?

Actually, I think this will cheer NU fans up a bit.
That mock Rose clip from the Tejas game (with the high-pitch voice) is even funnier to me now.
-
I think the guy was about to have a nervous breakdown over the plight of Cornhole Football . . . another example of a an entire states sense of self worth being inextricably tied to a college football team.
Sad . . .
-
forget it. This is not "stepping down"...Nubb P-B-P was his dream job. I believe he's being forced out for a number of reasons. One of which is that most corn fans don't like him. And I also think some of it has to do w/ the embarrassing tirade concerning Freeman. I think that rant forever associates Jim w/ the Callahan era and one a lot of corn fans have a lot of distaste for. While there are a number of jackhole Nubbers on the message boards the older Nubber folks still have pride and, dare I say it, class. I'm sure they have been biting their lips for a few years while this stuff was occuring.

I agree completely. They are systematically trying to erase everything even remotely associated with Callahan.

We should hire him to do play by play for us.

I don't feel sorry of Nebraska, I feel sorry for Jim Rose. He won't be part of the greatest self destruction of a team in the history of College Football. Lincoln Jim (as the press core likes to call him) lose is no big deal for Nebraska. They want people that want to call the games for Nebraska, like Greg Sharp (in the future Greg Sharp's mom is going to call AD Tom Osborn and let them know that he is transferring to North Carolina State because with the losing seasons that Turner Gill is putting in his voice is not getting enough play time)

We should hire him to do play by play for us.
I hear that he Western Unioned Osborn and told him to stop telographing him. :woohoo:

"Rose said the job as the voice of the Huskers was rewarding, exciting and thrilling, but he had lost touch with important things in his life"
...Like, not being hated by an entire fanbase.

Wow, I never knew Jim Rose had a life to lose touch with it. Lincoln Jim till the end I guess
-
Its funny how much people put sports "into perspective" when you are losing.
-
As much as I enjoyed listening to Rose and his myopic views from the standpoint as a fan from the other side, you could tell it was a passion with him and I think, like a lot of people who have passions, he took it to an unhealthy level.
I feel for the guy because I think everyone goes through a point in life where they realize they've taken too much for granted and sometimes, realize too late, and everything collapses.
Perhaps he realized just in time that he needs to wear different colored glasses, because it was evident he was heading for self-destruction.
Good Luck, Jim Rose. We will miss you.
-

So true. And we all do it.
-
Wow. This sucks. Greg Sharpe is going to be the new GBR voice, and we are stuck with wyatt.
-
I want Greg Sharpe. :(
-
why exactly is sharpe not ksu's guy again? or national? he was really fjcking good.
-
They're getting their ass kicked and their dropping like flies. Guys on their BBS's who posted for years and had thousands of posts now say they're not going to post anymore because suddenly they have "other priorities" . . . Jim Rose quits because it was just too demanding.
How much further proof do you need to know that their sense of self worth was almost entirely tied to Cornhole football.
Sad . . .

When Mid-America sports network got the new contract for K-State Sports, Greg Sharpe had recently been promoted to program director at WIBW and given more responsibility. He was offered the job first but felt loyalty to WIBW. So he declined the job. His position at WIBW was something he had worked to get and since his family was in Topeka, having to uproot them and move them to Manhattan for a job that was less money didn't sit well. I think his wife was also working in Topeka and loved her job.
Anyway, Sharpe still does play by play calling all over the region and I'm not sure he'll get the Nebraska job.
If he did, I'd be pretty upset at KSU. The whole Mid-America/WIBW thing was a huge fiasco.

That was the point. He got too immersed into it. I'm glad for Rose he didn't lose a family over it. I'm sure a lot of people have and you see it all the time.

:woohoo: :woot:
-
The WIBW thing was NOT a huge fiasco, unless you consider KSU allowing itself to be beholden to Georgia based Morris Communications and their $600K (Current deal worth $3 million plus a year) a year offer to carry KSU sports a good deal.

It was a good thing for KSU, I agree. The drama however, of WIBW not relinquishing it's rights, the impending court battle, etc.. the "WE WANT GREG!" chants..

Man, Tim Weiser is so awesome.
-
listening to wyatt rather than sharpe prob. damages the ksu fanbase to the tune of 1-2 million/year. that should be factored in when evaluating the deal.
-
Hope you Kats are happy now! First you chased off our AD and now our radio guy. After this weekend you guys will get Bill C fired.
You guys are mean and don't play nice!!!
I'll tell ya this, you won't have Jim Rose to kick around anymore!!! :goodevil:
-
Don't feel sorry for Nebraska.
Feel sorry for Jim Rose.
It's his loss.
Man, I could do a 1/2 rant on that.
-
Odd how Rose doesn't admit that the reason he had this epiphany about his life becoming a thing and not a person anymore is because Nebraska is one of the worst teams in the country right now and his mind shifted back to realities about life. Do you think he would still be in that booth if the Cornholes were 10-0 and in a National Title hunt? Hell yes he would and he would still be delusional about how much better Nebraska is than anyone and anything else in the history or mankind. It's absolutely amazing how following a losing team can shift some peoples thoughts to other more important things in life. This is absolutely about someone who connected their entire self worth and being into the success of Nebraska football. Incredibly sad. NU losing is probably the best thing that could have happened to him.
-
Exactly . . . if corn was undefeated, Rose would be on his usual spot with Keitzman with his sanctimonious attitude, telling every non Corn fan how their not worthy etc. etc. etc.
-

I think I realized you hit this point when you called into Stan and Wyatt after our Auburn loss.

This is why Jahox is right about us beating Texas. :frown:

Maybe we will see alot more of Rosie on the boards again.

MJ, you got it right with Jim. Rose is a die hard Husker fan, first and foremost, and that came through in his broadcasts. It appears to me that between the PBP gig, the 18 hour Saturdays that never really end... he never had a home life from early August to January. He'd get basically Feb. to recover, then he'd be into baseball PBP (which really is his best trait.)
Did he quit because the football team is losing, no. But let me ask you this: Do you, as a Wildcat fan, know of a Husker who isn't at least a little bummed about the team? ok, now mulitply that by about 100, because Jim was a 24/7/365 ad for NU athletics. He never had a chance to "shut it down for the week."
I know how tough these last few years have been for Jim. Best of Luck to him.
-

The fanbase is turning on everyone and everything bar none. They are probably bitching about the guy who sells them hotdogs at the stadium and the chick who pulls their ticket at the turnstile.
Never has a fanbase absolutely lynched their entire university then now in Lincoln.
-
He says that it's because he doesn't even know his 11 year old child's teacher's name and that's when he realized that he has to regroup his priorities. As much as I don't like the S.O.B. I have to respect him for that.
-
Ol' Jim probalby couldn't stand the thought of watching Josh Freeman rack up his stats on Nebraska's field.

Maybe not, but it took Nebraska tanking its season for him to even realize how much it's been wearing on his personal life. Had they been in the midst of a great season, he is still broadcasting because he wouldn't have had his mind shifted from Nebraska football to make that discovery.

I'm not going to knock him if he uses the NU downfall as an excuse to reconnect with his family. People always go back to what gives them strength during adversity, whether perceived or real.
The sad thing is, IF Nebraska was not in the shape it is, would he have accepted a divorce just to ride the wave? You have to seriously consider that if this guy is such a huge fan as well as a broadcaster for this team, and he has put in the blood, sweat and tears into it, then if his family situation deteriorated where he lost his family due to divorce, would he have leaned on the program to get him through? It's probably speculation that the decline probably affected him at home as well.
These are things you have to think about and seriously understand. This action was abrupt, and my guess is, that his wife probably said "Look, you want to work this hard and not be here for us, then we're not going to be here for you." All of that together means that if he wants to say "Well, maybe I need to stop and focus on what's important" then good for him that he's going to make the effort. I don't know that others would do the same, and some might say "Look Bitch, you don't want to support me, then go find someone else, I'm a celebrity and I'll get any poon I want because I'm the Voice of Nebraska." You gotta give the man credit for recognizing it before he lost what was important.
Things happen for a reason. Perhaps God is sending a message to Husker fans, you had your glory, you've gone awry from my teachings, now I'm going to send you Bill Callahan.

hatter that is just plain stupid of you to try to make this about Freeman or K-State. Kinda sound line KSN news and their Kansas connection.
This is good news for the Husker fans. Sharpe or Kevin kugler should get the job and will be a very welcome upgrade.

So are the locusts next or is Bill pretty much all the plagues rolled into one?
On another, angrier note, why is everyone going so soft on that little sawed off cocksucker? He was a total prick to all the K-state players he had on his short lived radio show in KC. And have you all forgotten what a pain in the ass NUBB and Pinkslip was? For the Lobe of God if you can't kick someone when they are down when can you kick them?? (and be classless?)

Who said losing doesn't build character? You guys should listen to the KSU fans more often. :beerchug:
-
anyone else going to be tuning in to the sharpe call of the game? usually 1510am or 97.3fm have the nebraska games in kansas city. i for one would be interested to hear how he calls it...and to think he called those huge games in '98 and '00...does he call this game with any bias at all?
no chance sharpe gets the job full time...would nebraska fans want a K-Stater calling their games?
man it sucks not having a radio voice from our own school.
-
He may have a pretty good chance at getting the job full time..
