Title: Question??
Post by: powerof10 on October 29, 2007, 07:44:40 PM
I heard Stan explain this Saturday, but kind of forgot.  Could someone explain to me what all has to happen for us to be Big XII north champs. TIA.  I was trying to explain this to a friend, but started getting confused.

I wouldn't worry about it.  Not going to happen.

However, we can win out and get a nice bowl...

Sorry I need to explain myself more, it was about if there was a three way tie, between us uk and Mizzou, I'm not saying its gonna happen, but there is a way, and I just wanted to be correct on the way I explained it.

ku has to lose to Moo, KSU has to win out.  Moo has to be in the mix tho for the tiebreakers to fall KSU's way, but with so much football left to be played, how the quality wins shake out is yet to be determined.

One of these threads should be stickied so all the powertards will stop making a new one every other day.  We're not going to win the North, damn.

On the gray and cloudy day of Nov. 24th at the location of Arrowhead stadium the skies will part suddenly creating a vortex of pain and suffering. The thin line between hell and earth will be breached with the sound of women and children screaming and from the ground will emerge a demon so grotesque that a glimpse of it will leave you with blindness and erectile dysfunction. And from one of its several hundred mouths it will sing the song that ends the earth. But the spell Bill Snyder mortally sacrificed two hundred virgins to cast will leave Kansas State unaffected.

That is how Ksu will win the north.

Quote
Divisional Tiebreakers: The following procedure will determine the representative from each division in the event of a tie:
The records of the three teams will be compared against each other
The records of the three teams will be compared within their division
The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of fi nish (4, 5 and 6)
The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents;
The highest ranked team in the fi rst Bowl Championship Series Poll following the completion of Big 12 regular season conference play shall be the representative
The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative
The representative will be chosen by draw.

Our best scenario is for ku to lose to 2 north schools.  Then they are eliminated according to criteria #2 and we would go over MU b/c we'd have the head to head win.  If we all go 4-1 vs the north and 2-1 vs the south (this assumes ku losses to OSU and MU and us winning out) it will come down to the last few criteria (I think).  Then it comes down to where the teams are ranked in the BCS and overall record.  BCS is really a crapshoot and we would lose overall record b/c we have an OOC loss.

At this point a Big 12 north title is really a longshot for us IMO.

QFT.

Imagine if we hold onto our lead vs. ku and Ostate.

We're arguably the best team in the conference....but, we're not. Not even close...but we're better than '04, '05, and '06. Not that that would take much but Prince has us going in the right direction....see Callahan for a comparison of what could be our current situation...and they have a crap ton more donation money and fans.

I'm not on the losing to ISU bandwagon.  But I will drive the losing to NU bandwagon.  No riders on top, please.

This discussion in this thread reminds me of discussion about KSU basketball during the pinnacle of the Wooly years when we were a lot further from making the NIT than any of us realized.

Here's another scenario that will drive some K-State fans crazy: if ku and K-State both keep winning, we can help ku lock up the North title before they even play MU in Arrowhead.

Those fans should turn in their power towels.

But very close. But arguably not close at all. But really we're the best team probably. But not really. Not even close. But maybe we're the best team. If only we were. Or close to it.
