Discuss.
I like it. It holds them responsible for when their unit sucks.

Yelling works. I hold my status within the Marine Corps to justify that.
Some people just don't get the situation, they screw it up, and might not figure it out until it's too late. If you have somebody yelling at you, you transition into a "Hate me now, Love me later" mentality. That is, you're f*cking pissed that this guy yelled at you because you are a grown ass man, but you're more inclined to remember your error haven gone through the yelling process.
THOUGH
There are people that never get it. You can yell at them, and they could give a f*ck less, because they could care less about the situation that they are in.
I assure you the assistant coaches are not trying to make errors, and when they're lashed out against, they'll work to fix those errors asap.
You could correlate this to pain, also. (In relation to a coach / player)
If I hurt you, or make you do something that hurts, you're going to remember what the hell you did. If you're smart, you'll avoid doing that again.
-
It's awesome and I use the same techniques with my dog. If it doesn't start doing what I tell it, I'm going to have it run stairs next.

If they weren't all FP's, they wouldn't need to get yelled at

With the caveat that I am generally not a fan of Prince's management style (as is apparent from some of my few posts):
Some people respond to that, and some get bitter and perform worse. One other possible downside is if Prince is using this tactic to take any heat off of himself and put it on his assistant coaches. You know, the fans will see this and think, "Well, damn, it sure must be because of Prince's assistants rather than his own fault that we are failing at X..." Not saying that is the case here, but some head coaches have been known to think of that little trick.
-
I'm of the belief that if you are screaming something it is because you don't have anything of substance to say or you'd simply say it. If it can't be discussed then its worthless thinking screaming will somehow enhance the meaning.
-
Prince may have been yelling at some coaches, but Mo was flat out giving it to the Defense on the sideline in the first quarter. I'd say they got the message.
Its football for &@#%'s sake, Coaches yell.

A) If you get bitter and decide to perform lackluster, you don't play. This is football. There are a ton of guys ready to step up to take your spot.
B) A coach is responsible period. Anybody thinking otherwise, is just lacking the knowledge of leadership. If the coach denies responsibility (which I have yet to hear Prince NOT blame himself for a failure), then they are not a good leader.

You don't have time to just sit and talk to somebody in some nice fairy tail way. This is football, and you are under the restriction of time. Those coaches NEED to figure out what they f*cked up on, and quick!

I think its GREAT! anything to get these guys to pull thier heads out.

So you are saying that you believe screaming at someone makes them smarter, faster? We should probably pass this on to those in education.
-
No big deal, just part of the drill for many coaches. There is a lot invested in a game and assistants are held responsible. Plus, its a normal part of everyday K-State football, I've seen assistants get chewed plenty at KSU practices. Maybe there are better ways of handling it, but it is what it is. If the guys (coaches and players) respond appropriately, this is pretty insignificant.

Situation Dictates... Obviously the atmosphere of a Football game is chaotic compared to an academic atmosphere. It would be stupid to impose that on education. Two completely different fronts.
And yes, yelling at somebody in the heat of "battle" is going to fire them up. They'll be thinking about what they did, and they'll work a lot faster to fix it the next time the situation happens. Because, in football, that could be the next play.

I think making them run sprints is a little more odd.
OK, a lot more odd.

I guess no one remembers Bob and Mike Stoops and Brent Venables absolutely ripping into players coming off the sidelines. I remember the defense stopping a guy for a loss against ku and BV couldn't stop chewing Jeff's ass all the way to the bench. This was after we were already murdering ku. Quit being a bunch of FP's.

We're not discussing the ass-ripping of players, we're discussing the better way to get assistant coaches to do their job during a game.
I do not think it a big deal either way and I understand the "heat of battle" mentality, just no so sure I agree that screaming at them works better than not. But, whatever, as long as we are winning with whatever tack is taken.
-
I liked whatever Snyder did. It worked. We basically suck now.
-
Most of these guys are former players - who have been getting ripped their whole lives! One of my most vivid memories as a FB player in HS is having my coach snatch me up by the facemask after a bad play; the yelling, the spit flying - I thought I was being coached by Lou Holtz! If this bothers our coaching staff, they need to coach a less stressful sport - like Badmitton or the like.
BTW, the alternative for a coach in this situation is unemployment. I think the ass-chewing might be preferred.

Somehow screaming at players got mixed into this topic -- it is a completely different thing. I think yelling at players is usually a good thing (again, different people respond differently) because players rely in part on adreneline and being fired-up for a physical activity. Having someone in their face can help with that. I am generally all for screaming at players. On the other hand, coaching is not a physical activity, so yelling doesn't accomplish the same result. Are coaches going to think harder, more clearly, or more creatively because someone is screaming at them? No. And making them run stairs is just absurd.

Just because someone makes a play doesnt mean there wasn't someone in the wrong gap or making the wrong read.
There is a truth when coaches say things like "we've got a lot to work on" after a blowout, sometimes you are just flat better than teams and your mistakes don't matter. They always catch up against good opponents.
I think that's what has happened to our defense, we looked great against subpar competition because we were better and our speed made up for it. However our linebackers are not very good and as soon as we played a solid team we were exposed.
I've heard a lot about missed tackling but missed tackles are often the result of not being in the correct place, if you get to where you are supposed to be, you should be in the position to make a tackle at this level.

Not true...I saw this badmitton match where Brian Urlacher and Big Papi were playing some Chinese fellers...it was INTENSE!

I thought I was being coached by Lou Holtz!
did your coach have a really bad lisp or something?

No just the spit

I am pro-yelling at coaches and pro-yelling at players. You have to weed out the FP, TCs, etc. or you end up like NU(< 100% FP, TC, etc.) in a hurry.
-
I think making the coaches run stairs is fantastic. Awesome, really.
-
If Mangino ran stairs after every ku loss, then he'd be one svelte dude. Bitching about yelling at asst. coaches or making them run stairs smacks of sour grapes. You're just sorry you didn't think of it first.
