thanks for the link fff.  The defense on that WR screen on 3rd and goal from the 10 was horrible.  Just one of many instances in the game where a play made by KSU would have won the game.

Few things:

1. That's a home game for The Oklahoman. They should cover the hell out of it with every possible resource.

2. If you have a legitimate beef with how the local newspapers are covering Kansas State athletics, why don't you contact the sports editors at each paper? That way, instead of coming off as a passive-aggressive whiner, your concerns will actually be heard and possibly addressed.

3. My job, for the time being, is to write stories about Kansas State athletics. If they tell me I need to start doing video as well, I will. Until then, though, it's not a skill set I'm going to embrace.

Hope that clears things up, Fatty. But please, keep stirring things up.

We don't employ a strictly online guy or anyone with video skills. Sorry. Like I said, consult my boss, Kirk Seminoff. He can be reached at [email protected]. As for the rest of the newspapers' sports editors, I know you're clever enough to find their e-mail addresses.

For what it's worth, I agree with you. But I don't make these calls. I'm just a worker bee.

1.  If the reason being given for why the Eagle has no video up is the perilously long and difficult sojourn (which would've put valuable video equipment at risk from pesky Indian raiders, bandits and outlaws of the trail!) from Wichita to Stillwater, then that is pathetic.

2.  If your response to a message board post taking a peripheral shot at your employer is to name call, then you come off looking like a defensive nancy.

3.  Did fatty even mention your name?  Christ, maybe you should just let your editor know that people are asking for more video rather than complaining that your customers are letting their tastes be publicly known.

the vids are cool, KC star has something similar now with v-blogs(i think they call them), Eagle should get on that.

Jmart, did you see any noticable adjustments on defense last night.  wyatt and stan didn't offer any insight.

I think the readers should get what they want. But when it is said our coverage is lacking, and when all our coverage consists of is stories - a majority written by me - that bothers me. I'll admit it.

E-mail my boss. Scream for video. Power to the people...

Jeff, if you could take over the ku Q&A from Plumlee that would be great.

And tell him he looks like Fred Savage's dad from Wonder Years while you're at it.

I can't stay mad at you. :shy:

We like the stories, we like the scoops, we like the blog, we like the unpretentious attitude and the message board posts, we like the Q&A, we like the "5."

We just want more vids so that fatty can continue compiling his 8 HDs + of marginally valuable KSU sports related media so that he can bust out another monster video at some point.  I understand what you are saying, it just came off as antithetical to your whole shtick which is "one of us."

Dear Captain Kirk-

We, the Wildcat Nation would like more video coverage of our Cats.  In
fact, WE DEMAND IT!  While we really like The Eagle's online coverage
and Jeff Martin in general, we also would like video. . .Especially
when the game wasn't televised and the only two human beings that we
could listen to in Manhattan attempt to explain what was happening were
Wyatt Thompson and Stan Weber (We're not even going to count Matt
Walters.  If you've ever gotten inside "the Game" you know why).  If
you want to see what K-State fans want please check this source, it had
excellent video work:

http://www.newsok.com/video/brightcove/?bctid=1260649232&bclid=1111449913

In summary:  Online = Good!  Jeff Martin = Great!  Video = WANT MORE!
Plumlee = Terrible Q&A'er!

Thank you sincerely for bringing in J-Mart and here's hoping for more
video,

Anytime the game isn't on TV, you have to step up the coverage. Mostly such a big game like this one. Again, this criticism only helps you, I constantly pimp you when you do a great job. And I know you love it when I do.

Don't you guys have a photographer? There is a start.

Greetings from Wildcat Nation,

We, the viewers/readers of the Wichita Eagle, request more video coverage of games. Especially since the game was on the road, and not on TV. The only coverage of the game that anybody could get was over the radio with Stan Weber and Wyatt Thompson, i.e. Wyatt-vision. We realize that you can't put the game on TV, but the least we could ask from you is a video-oriented pregame/postgame. See: http://www.newsok.com/video/brightcove/?bctid=1260649232&bclid=1111449913

The majority of Wildcat fans, love your site. The online coverage, such as Jeff Martin's blog, K-Stated= excellent. Also excellent is all the coverage, especially the Q&A's, of beat writer Jeffrey Martin. We really love Jeffrey.

I sincerely hope that you will take into consideration the request that Wildcat Nation demands for more video coverage. We hope video is on the way!!!!!!!!!

There was a link to game footage up there somewhere, before this thread went freaking psycho...and that footage made me even more pissed at our D than I already was. How many tackles did we miss in those few clips? Good Lord.

Title: Wichita Asshat weighs in
Post by: Kirk_Seminoff on October 21, 2007, 09:09:17 PM
Hello to Ben, Christopher and anyone else considering e-mailing me,

Sports editors are no dummies (OK, debatable). We get one e-mail from a fan on a particular subject and it's an occurrence. Two is a trend. So after Chris' e-mail, I logged on and logged in and found this thread.

Thanks to J-Mart for encouraging e-mails to me. There's nothing I love more than taking a break from coding up the Titans-Texans box score than to explain our coverage. (JM, get some sleep, your boys are money tonight.)

I, too, have marveled at the Oklahoman website the past few years. It's as tough to navigate as an I-35 in downtown OKC, but the resources they put into it are remarkable.

And that's the difference between us and them now. Resources. They got 'em, we don't. I want our site to be as varied as theirs, and I think we'll get there. But the Oklahoman is far ahead of us in technology and doing something we it. We debuted our high school sports website, VarsityKansas.com, in September. And while I've never given birth, I can only imagine it was something like getting that site started.

What J-Mart won't tell you is that he's the first K-State beat writer with a blog. He's breaking a ton of information on it, too. I'm betting it's must-reading for most K-State fans. Our paper's emphasis in Sports right now is the high school site, blogs and photo slideshows. We'll get there with the video. But it's going to take some time.

Hope that answers some questions. I'll check in after deadline tonight to see if there are others.

Kirk
