I've always thought that bball arenas were always hard to be impressed by. They're never monstrous like football stadiums and none really have a great aesthetic value. I've only been to Gallagher-Iba, Phog, and A&M's arenas but none had a ridiculously amazing atmosphere. I think what makes the arena great is how loud it can get so pretty much they are really all on par imo.

I implore you to put your bias aside and walk into allenfieldhouse.

There are a two components to this thing:
Tradition - Allen Field House is the most historic building in the Big 12, with GIA a close second. If we had rennovated Ahearn, it would be included in this discussion, and may even be ranked #1 or #2, as it is older than Allen and I think GIA.
Home Court Advantage - Allen has this category topped as well, with GIA a close second. You also have to throw Hilton at ISU in here. According to Mike Kelley (Voice of the Tigers), Bramlage was the loudest building he has ever been in last season. Bramlage can be a very loud and intimidating place - when people show up. We need some consistency in this regard, however, before we start including ourselves in the discussion. Winning games will help. People tend to jump on the bandwagon and show up when you win (See the "who's who" Allen Field House).

Does Allen Fieldhouse still smell like overflowing urinals and burnt popcorn??
-
Gallagher-Iba hands down! I've experienced both from the bench and Iba was the shiznit. The Phag is old, woredown, and a dump. They say when you walk in that place you can "smell the tradition" when in reality it is the stinch of the students living on the so-called concourse of that place peeing themselves as they wait for gameday.

'I love the smell of overflowing urinals and burnt popcorn in Allen Field House. It smells like -- victory!'

I think the fetid stench superwillie8 was referring to in The Phag was that of his own fecal matter running down his legs after he watched the performance of his favorite purple-clad team during their 97-70 loss there back in February.

Considering ku just spent $15 million on renovating Allen Fieldhouse and adding the Booth Family Hall of Athletics, I'd have to say the last time you were in Allen Fieldhouse was probably in the mid 90's.

growing up so close to lawrence, and my best friends parents having season tickets, and me being a confused child, i went to AFH a lot.
i havent seen the renovations...havent been in awhile.
its a'ight.

I went to the fog in '06, not the best atmosphere for that game. :D ...but i'm sure it could be good if you wern't losing.
Went to GIA last year, not a capacity crowd but i loved their arena. Very close to the court and vertical seats.

Actually it was the 59-55 win we posted on your sorry asses in 2006.

Really? You were there for the one win your team has had over ku! Kind of like being able to say you were around to see Halley's Comet.
Something to be able to tell your grandchildren about, superwillie8.
('Sorry asses in 2006'? Wasn't that -- yet another -- year where ku was regular season and post-season tournament champions? Someone must have high standards for 'sorry'.)
